Michael Moore's films that are not on DVD?

Any DVD news on The Big One, Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint, and TV Nation? It seems like it would be a good time for studios to release his past movies and shows during the next few months.

I'd definitely jump on TV NATION - maybe the current success will motivate DVDs for some of these.

It's not like I need a crystal ball or anything for this one, but I predict TV nation will get a release within a year.

I don't know if you can be so sure about TV Nation. I watched it every week, but no one else did. One week, it was actually the lowest rated of all shows on any of the 4 networks. Plus, it bounced around 2 networks so I don't know if that will have any effect on the rights.

And THE BIG ONE has been rumored for a release, and delayed and finally cancelled for the past 2 years.

This one may never see the light of day until Di$ney and Mirimax split. **** DI$NEY

Columbia/Tri-Star owns the rights to TV Nation (when it was on both NBC and FOX) and if they were smart, come September we would see the TV Nation: The Complete Series DVD. ;)

Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint is a short film and SHOULD'VE BEEN on the Roger & Me DVD.

If everything was right in the world, The Big One should've been on DVD by now. Hell, it should come to DVD in September. But we all know that we might not see this one for a while.

I'm confused. I have the TV Nation Box Set. It includes the first & second seasons. Is that not the full set or what? You guys talk as if it doesn't exist. I got it from Amazon.ca so maybe it's just a Canadian release? Or is it OOP?

normy22 06-27-04 09:30 AM

Strike that. I'm an idiot. I have The Awful Truth. I plead idiocy.

I don't think Disney is to blame. They released it in theatres, on VHS and laserdisc. It still plays TV quite a bit.

It isn't as controversial as 911 (and is actually a better film, I believe. More focused than 911). I don't know what the hold up is.

Im still waiting for a Canadian Bacon Special Edition. The current dvd is a bare bones release. It would be great to see a special edition with a new transfer and extras including the alternate ending.

I'm a fan of Moore's pre-2000 election stuff, and think "The Big One" is really brilliant and funny in places. It's really scattershot, but endearing, and would've been a GREAT film had it focused on the Borders employees organizing. Moore really tweaks everyone in those bits. I'd love to see it on DVD.

Columbia/Tri-Star released two VHS tapes of TV Nation (in 1997, me thinks), and each contained two full episodes and a bonus segment. Got these bargain-bin cheap when I worked at Media Play.

Volume One Contains:

Premiere Episode
1. Free Trade in Mexico
2. Taxi!
3. Appleton Prison
4. Love Canal
5. Looking for Missiles

Year-End Special
1. Corp-Aid
2. White House Security Guard
3. Where to Send Our Boys in '95
4. 5 Million New Jobs
5. Meet the Republicans

Bonus Segment: Condoms

Volume Two Contains:
Second Season Premiere Episode
1. Bruno for President
2. Slaves
3. Beach Party
4. Crime Scene Clean-Up
5. Crackers the Corporate Crime-Fighting Chicken

The "Love Night" Episode
1. Love Night
2. Michigan Militia
3. America's Most Wanted
4. Aquariums of the Damned
5. KGB III
6. Meet the Republicans

Bonus Segment: Extra Credit

Even though they're not on DVD, the VHS tapes are well worth picking up if you can find them. Funny stuff.

Cheers.

I would expect to see TV Nation on DVD around the time 9/11 comes out.

I have a copy of "The Big One" :)

It actually came out here in Australia (R4) about 6 or 7 months ago. Cost is Aus$14.94 or about $12 US. See this link:

So if you have multi-zone capabilities it might be worth a look.

Cheers

imdb list him directing a movie called "And Justice For All" as far as I know it's not on DVD. I second the request for an SE of Canadian Bacon, with Moore commentary.

What was his involvement in Lucky Numbers? I know he had a bit part, but did he do anything else on it? Writer, Director, Producer

There had been talk that 'The Big One' would come out the same time as 'Fahrenheit'. However, that was when Miramax was releasing 'Fahrenheit'. I'd think that, since the Weinsteins are still mega-involved in the release, they'd try to time a DVD release of 'The Big One' with the September release of 'Fahrenheit', but I'd *also* think that Michael Moore is far too involved in 'Fahrenheit' to do a proper DVD release of 'The Big One' ... and that if they rush out one release now, they won't re-release it later ... so I'd rather wait a little while and get a proper release for it.

I tend to think that's one of those projects (like Christopher Guest's "DOA") that never happened but never got deleted from the database either. If it happened, I'm sure it's just a short or something, though the IMDb has no other info.

Nope.

I tend to doubt we'll ever see this ... it'd be interesting, I guess. I dunno, the best thing I can say about that movie is that John Candy is more aesthetically pleasing to watch playing Michael Moore than Michael Moore is.

Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint is a short film and SHOULD'VE BEEN on the Roger & Me DVD.
The problem is, there's a movie called "Two Mikes Don't Make A Wright" that it was edited into. Along with "The Appointments of Dennis Jennings", a short directed and co-written by and starring Steven Wright, and "A Sense of History", a Mike Leigh short starring Jim Broadbent. The Wright film won an Oscar for "Best Live Action Short" in 1989.

Released by October Films in '93, apparently.

So whoever the rights holder is on that movie probably wouldn't want that section released seperately, they'd probably rather release the movie themselves and get the Moore fans to buy it from them.
