Starting a Wrestling DVD collection: any recommendations?
Well im sort of a wrestling fan, but more of an old school one. I stopped watching wrestling a few years ago and cant bear to watch it now. But anyway, recently ive been dwelling on wrestling when it was good, fun and the characters were great to watch. So im thinking about picking up a few DVDs to hold on to, to be able to watch whenever im feeling nostalgic.
So far, im thinking of picking up: Hulk Hogan: Hulk Still Rules and Triple H: The Game Now as you can see, those two choices focus on the career of that certain wrestler, but i also would like to pick up a few event themed DVDs. Like some Wrestlemanias, Summerslams, etc. Which ones do you guys own, are all the Wrestlemanias availabe on DVD? In a box set possibly? Which Wrestlemania was it that Hulk fought The Ultimate Warrior and when he fought The Rock? Also, is there any DVD that focuses on Sting, or the NWO for that matter? Thanx guys, look forward to your responses! |
The Ultimate Ric Flair Collection
|
Get the Bloodbath collection or Mick Foley collection, either one is good (I don't have both but I heard both are good).
|
Pick up the new WWE Hall of Fame DVD also, it's great for fans of the old school.

HBK From the Vault is another on that focuses on his career. The ones I currently own are a couple of different PPVs ($5 from Kmart) and Lita's DVD. I'd also recommend giving the NWA:TNA DVDs a try. I haven't watched them myself but TNA feels more like ECW/WCW. |
You're collection is not a collection until you get this:

I also really like Best of RAW Vol 1 & 2, WWF Action, WWF Hardcore, the two disc version of The Rock Just Bring It, the Mysterio DVD, and the Monday Night War DVD. The Flair and Mick Foley sets are obviously must haves for the wrestling fan.
I'd even say that the Brock DVD is a "must have", if only because it basicly covers almost all of his actual WWE career. The Stone Cold Truth is a nice disc also. I love almost all of the released wrestling DVDs, but that's just me. :D |
Some time ago there was a Wrestlemania box set which had something like Wrestlemania 1-15 or so. I never got a chance to buy it and it's now OOP. If you can find one of those sets there are some classic matches in there including one of the best matches I've ever seen...Steamboat vs Savage @ Wrestlemania 3
|
It wasn't a DVD set though, it was only on VHS.
To the OP, if you have a DVD player that can play DVDs from other regions (you may have one and not know it, like I have now) you can buy the early WWE PPVs that are being released in R2 right now. Each DVD comes with two complete WWF PPVs. Like WrestleMania 1 & 2, etc... |

Its like hot chics wrestling topless, nude and stuff, anyone have any of those DVDs? Are they anygood? Also, whats up with the official ladies od wrestling, any good DVDs like on Lita, Trish and what not? |
Lita and Trish have their own DVDs. Lita's is pretty good. It shows how she started out and made her way to the WWF. There wasn't any ECW footage though.

Go to Walmart and in the bin you can find some old school wrestling dvds. They have 2 packs of classic 80's wrestling($2.75 for each dvd is awesome)that have 7 matches on each. Wrestlemania 18 was when hogan fought the rock and on that double dvd and on the wrestlemania 19 dvd one of the extras is the match between hogan and The Ultimate Warrior. Also, WWE wrestling today pretty much sucks but NWA:TNA is pretty good their wrestlers have a lot of talent(a mix between old wcw,ecw and nwa). if you want to check out their show its on friday afternoons on Fox Sports Net

WCW was a million times better than WWE.
sadly there are no WCW DVD's :( |
ROH (Ring of Honor) is a million times better than WWE and WCW. They have one dvd available at BB (link ), and many more can be found at rfvideo .
They don't have much of a storyline going, but if you want some great matches with a good clean finish, this is definately the way to go. I used to be a huge WCW/WWE fan a few years ago, and when it got to the point where RAW was only showing like 5 matches in their 3 hour slot, I got kind of tired of it. Now that I've seen ROH, I don't think there's any way I could ever go back. |
as for wcw being so much better, you may want to pre-order this book http://www.deathofwcw.com/
ROH is ok, mainly hit or miss to me. The live shows tend to go on a little too long, and *every* match has guys killing themselves which dilutes the product a little. They're a decent little promotion, but to those who don't know, they split from RF Video and it's a nasty one. As for DVDs the get: For the WWF/E Shawn Michaels: From the Vault was very good The Stone Cold Truth is a decent biography with some fun matches The Mysterio DVD is decent The WrestleMania XX set was *really good* (UPN's Mania of Wrestlemania and TNN's 1 Hour greatest Mania matches show included) The Flair set is great I'm eagerly anticipating the Benoit 2 Disc I also *highly* recommend going to www.highspots.com or www.bobbarnett.com and picking up some Japanese comps if you really want to see some great stuff......They both have Lucha(Mexican) if you'd like. -Paul Jacobi- |
Alot of the good DVD's have gone OOP, Like the Hogan DVD

I went to the ROH homepage, and they've still got the old links on their merch page, so I shot them off an email to see where you can get their shows from now. Hopefully their split from RF will drop the cost per disc down a little (crosses fingers). |

Don't forget all the ECW DVDs. All are great.
ROH is incredible. You never realize how much the WWE (which I love) is insulting your intelligence until you see ROH. |
Oh yeah, if you like inside information, don't forget the Wrestling Gold DVDs. The commentaries/stories/information by Cornette and Dave Meltzer are priceless.
|
How could I forget that set!? The Wrestling Gold box set is a HUGE must have for all old school wrestling fans!
|
Shawn Michaels: from the Vault
Hardy Boys: Leap of Faith Hulk Hogan Ric Flair Mick Foley WWF Bloodbath These are all great DVDs. Wrestlemania 2000 (has a history of Wrestlemania as an extra) Wrestlemania X-8 (has the HH v. UW match as an extra) |
definately will recommend, the ECW DVDs. they are great.
|
ECW: Heat Wave '98 and Path of Destruction
WWE:Monday Night Wars Ultimate Ric Flair Collection Best of Mick Foley WM 20, just for the history. |
