What is the ideal price for season sets of a TV sitcom on DVD?
On average what is the ideal Suggested Retail Price of TV Sitcoms Season sets on DVD?
And please be serious and don't answer with "Free" or some ridicously low price.
I will start the poll at $20.00 (which would also stand for $19.95, $19.99 or similar), and go up by $5.00 increments.
And this is for one season at a time.

I went with $30, since that's what Columbia Tri-Star's been pricing their older shows at. I don't mind an SRP of $40-50 for newer shows, but I obviously wish it were less.

Depends on the show. Friends is usually around $30-$35 while shows like 24 can be more expensive. IMO if its $30-$35 for a season then its worth picking up. $40 is the max for me usually unless its a TV show I really wanted. Spending more than $40 per season can get kinda crazy, especially if there are a lot of seasons for the show.

Can't answer because it depends on how many discs are included because was it a 30 minute show or 60 minute show. Was it a full season or short season? My guidelines are it should not be more than $10 a disc. I.E. $40 for a 4 disc set or $30 for a 3 disc set.

I picked $30. If it's $30, and it's a show I like, it's an easy choice to buy it. If it's more I can't always justify it (which is why I don't either season of the Monkees yet)

Offhand, I can't think of any 60-minute sitcoms.

Anyway, I think $30-$35 would be a reasonable price.

$30-35 for a full season (over 20 half hour episodes) on 3 or 4 discs seems fair to me. Of course this price varies depending on how much I like the sitcom and the amount of actual episodes- for example, $20 per "season" on Coupling seems fair to me even though there's only 6, 9 and 7 episodes per set.

Typically no Dolby 5.1, more than likely a very shoddy video transfer (unless its a newer season of a newer show) not thought of in 480p at the time of shooting, unless (as previously described) fore knowledge of broadcast on an HD signal...and that basically rules out just about everything that I would even be remotely interested in getting - Today's TV programming is just very sub-par IMO
But that being the case I will offer up an average of $5.50 per disc in the set (whether its an hour or half-hour...same price). Fancy packaging doesnt interest me and Im not including it in my assessment of the price, as I would more than likely take it out of the digipacks and replace with Amarays (if they are not already in such a acase) and as far as the inlay art goes, I would more than likely change it or create better myself.

Typically they're coming out in either 2-Disc or 4-Disc sets, obviously there's some exceptions but those are the average.
I think the 2-Disc Sets shouldn't go higher then $20, and the 4-Disc ones shouldn't go above $30.

Depends on the show I guess. Something like Gilligan's Island, which had 39 episodes, I wouldnt mind paying a bit more for. A ton of episodes, most of which I consider classics - yeah it'd be worth it.
But 60 bucks for the Flintstones? I liked the show as a kid, but I doesnt play as well as an adult. So I dont think I'll be getting any more sets beyond the first one.
In a perfect world, tho - 30 bucks would be the average price point.

I picked $35.
It does vary a bit though. Sitcoms should be around $25 bucks, dramatic series should be around $35-$45, and sci-fi series should stop smoking crack and forcing people to take out small loans in order to buy them (Farscape I'm looking at your)
Though honestly if it's a series I really like I don't mind plunking down the cash for it. Like I would buy Scrubs season sets for $75 bucks in a heart beat but wouldn't buy season sets of Friends if they cost $10 (not a knock on that show, just ain't my bag).

$35 is the maximum for me, and only for a show I REALLY want. Especially if a show is currently in syndication, I just don't find it sensible to spend too much. An hour long show I could pay a little more for.

I hit 35 but in practice I'll consider up to 40. Over 40 takes the movie out of "impulse buy" zone, where so many DVDs reside (and which is probably a major contributor to the success of the format).
At 35 dollars, my girlfriend has impulse-purchased every season of Friends currently available over the last few months. At that price (roughly), I eagerly buy M*A*S*H. And when the South Park seasons come out, I also buy them without a second thought.
Past that, though, it becomes a hard sell (Paramount, you listening?). I'm slowly trying to acquire the various Trek series on DVD, but at the $100 pricepoint per season, it becomes a considered purchase and all too often, I decide against it. If it were $40 (heck, with the production quality they put into TNG and TOS packaging, I'd go up to $50) it'd be a no-thought impulse. Absolutely, totally sold. But $100? That's a stiff buy-in.
If they even dropped the price to $75, I bet the increased volume might make up for the reduced profit per unit.

Simpsons, Curb Your Enthusiasm, South Park S4; have all been 30 at Best Buy the last few weeks and I had no problem picking them up. Frankly, I was very pleased about that price.
Although a few months ago, when "The Critic" was finally released. The lowest price I found was a little over 40, which almost made me decide not to buy it... but I did anyways because I love the show. If I didn't love it as much as I did, I wouldn't have bought it. Numbers are a fragile thing.
