No IRON GIANT SE until '04!

I didn't see this reported earlier so here it goes:
The long-awaited special edition of The Iron Giant, which had been set for release on August 26th, has now been delayed until 2004. No specific reason has been given for the delay.

yeah, they posted this at the bits... I am SHOCKED... this thing has been so long in the works, and I thought, finally, with a date set we'd see it...but now looks like another screw job... what's with warner delaying this and ben stiller show...two dvds I've been dying for...

A pity, but oh well. I've got enough on my plate to keep me going for a while. I'll get it, but a wait is no big deal.

DOH! I guess I'll get a little more mileage out of the current disc. I got it from CH about a month before the SE was "officially" announced.

Is Warner the label who is doing the next two Matrix titles? If so, this might be the reason. Maybe all efforts are being concentrated on more popular titles that will rake in the $$$.

Here's what toonzone.net had to say about why:
The delay is rumored to be related to the announcement of The Iron Giant director Brad Bird's next film. His next film, a Disney/Pixar CGI feature called The Incredibles, is scheduled to be released in November 2004.
I can't say I really understand that logic if it's true.

I borrowed this from a friend a year and a half ago. Loved it. Read there was a SE in the works so I never picked it up. So what is another year. Sheesh. Although my plate will be full as well with NYPD Blue: Season 2, ER: Season 1, Stargate: Season 4, and 24:Season 2 all coming out within 3 weeks of the planned Iron Giant.

I was really looking forward to the SE. But I guess financially it's for the best. There was a teaser for The Incredibles before Finding Nemo so maybe they're waiting so
1. they can put the trailer on the DVD or
2. the director is so busy with The Incredibles that he hasn't been able to do a commentary track.

I think the director has said he's already recorded a commentary for it years ago. And since they're from different companies, I doubt they'll put a trailer on it. At most, maybe they're doing something more special, but most likely, they're waiting to cash in with a banner at the top touting, "From the creator of 'The Incredibles!'"

I had put off getting this for my daughter due to the rumors floating around of the re-release. I guess she will just have to wait a little longer.

I really do hope this isn't the reason for the delay. The studio has to realize we'll buy the movie anyway regardless of what the director is currently working on.
