Anybody who works in DVD/CD retail will tell you that kids steal just the discs all the time. They know the cases are source-tagged, which will set off alarms, so they just slice them open and take the disc. In those instances, it's just something they want, not to fence. For those of you who think this is just a sham, try getting a DVD out of those packages without unlocking the tabs. Pretty difficult to do, and the extra step to remove the shrink-wrap to get to those tabs can often be enough to get the attention of an employee which causes the kid to just drop the case and get out the door. That's been the case a few times at my store. I like the cases and I hope more studios get a clue and start using them. The Paramount discs are the ones that suggest twisting them off, which is an option for those who are annoyed by them.

My copy of The Sum of All Fears is in one of these cases and I got it a while ago.

It doesn't bother me one bit. I have only used them 3 or 4 times so it took what 6 seconds of my life to open them?

I got the DVD at Best Buy with the "free exclusive bonus disc" that was glued to the back of the case. I didn't know that it was glued to the back of the case, so I was pissed that there was glue all over the back cover.

So instead I simply just threw the case out and put both discs and the cover in an amaray slim double case. Problem solved (and now I can say I own a two-disc version of Eurotrip). :)

I bought it from Best Buy and the extra disc wasn't glued. It was held there by the shrink wrap

With my copy, the extra disc was glued right onto the case. I had glue all over the back cover.

I almost broke the case trying to open it not knowing about those dumb tabs.

Yikes, never seen those. I will have to keep my eye out. Dont think I would like it but I wont mind.

All it takes is a small pen knife to slice the clasps off, its not brain surgery.

We're just one step away from the studios actually melting the cases shut after they put the discs in them.
Don't forget the keepcase with the red plastic strip that seals the open end of the case (saw Godfather in those). I think one has to cut the plastic out in order to open the keepcase.

if theyre going to make these new cases to keep the retailers happy, how about a new design to make the consumers happy... like a better hub that will make "floaters' a thing of the past.

They have it. It's called the "alpha" case.

And removing the tabs is just a matter of bending them back and forth and twisting a little. They snap right off.
