DVD of the year so far?

After a huge and expensive May for most of us, I wanted to see what is the early frontrunner for DVD of the year. My vote goes to Master and Commander Special Edition, great movie and a great DVD.

Giles 05-27-04 09:50 AM

okay so who voted 'Other' and what DVD is it??

LasVegasMichael 05-27-04 09:50 AM

Panic Room 3D SE: No contest.

Regardless of the "quality" of the movie, this is an impressive DVD set, even if you hate the movie.

The effort that went into the 3 packed discs for this is very impressive and is comperable to Godfather of jampacked DVDs: Alien Quad.

wendersfan 05-27-04 09:52 AM

Rules of the Game: Criterion Collection. The definitive release of the greatest movie ever made. It's not only the DVD of the year, it's the DVD of all-time.

EPKJ 05-27-04 09:52 AM

Master And Commander SE is my choice. It had class.

Geofferson 05-27-04 10:00 AM

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Johnny Zhivago 05-27-04 10:08 AM

Well, I'm not going to vote in the poll... It's not fair since I haven't watched every single DVD released to date... That said, my personal favorites of 04' to this point are... Enter The Dragon SE and Good, the Bad and the Ugly CE.

Master and Commander might have the best packaging...

Panic Room might have the best extras, I need to pick that one up at some point (if it ever goes on sale) and give it a spin...

However, the best is yet to come...

mljones99 05-27-04 10:10 AM

I can't decide between The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly and Rules of the Game.

REL77 05-27-04 10:11 AM

Definitly Panic Room 3Disk, nothing can compete with the quality of that extras (So Far)

MrVette99 05-27-04 10:15 AM

Shrek 2

NaturalMystic79 05-27-04 10:23 AM

Master & Commander 2 disc CE with it's excellent feature, extras, reference picture and DTS sound, and packaging.

bboisvert 05-27-04 10:38 AM

So, I take it that nobody in this thread owns the Freaks and Geeks Yearbook Edition? That may be the best DVD *ever*, let alone this year so far...

Rules of the Game / Panic Room are fighting hard for 2nd place, though...

LasVegasMichael 05-27-04 10:39 AM

Okay, SIX people have voted OTher? What other (and better) discs are there then those listed?

Definitely. Either version of Freaks and Geeks would easily top the listed titles (The Yearbook is the greatest SE packaging ever). Panic Room is the tops of the theatrical releases.

No way, man. The Aliens vs. Predator DVD blows this one out of the water. Hell, even Garfield had better picture quality and extras. Not to mention the impressive easter eggs hidden on Spiderman 2.

Not to mention the EE of Jackson's King Kong blows the TE away.

Oh, I voted for Panic Room

billy9215 05-27-04 11:17 AM

Master and Commander SE, no contest.

I third this notion, and declare this poll null and void without its inclusion. Otherwise, I loved the Master and Comnmander SE.

...but I was lucky enough to review 'em BOTH, so I'm biased...

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Collector's Edition - Amazing packaging...gorgeous restoration...great extras...and its one of the best movies ever created!

Pants 05-27-04 12:16 PM

What a rediculous list!

My list would be:

Scenes From a Marriage
The Grapes of Wrath
Naked Lunch
My Darling Clementine
Disney Behind the Front Lines
Devil and Daniel Webster

...and the winner would be Disney Treasures: Tomorrowland

Simpson Purist 05-27-04 12:35 PM

Futurama Volume 3.

fumanstan 05-27-04 12:39 PM

Panic Room, even though i don't have it.

CephalicCarnage 05-27-04 12:56 PM

Futurama Vol 3 was the best for me.
