new Pitch Black release question

does it still have the DTS track?

dcprules 05-27-04 06:52 PM

It doesn't look like it from what I read at DVD empire, but I don't know for sure. No back cover yet.

Geofferson 05-27-04 07:48 PM

that sucks.

cleaver 06-01-04 12:46 PM

Amazon is listing a DTS ES track; looks like I'm going to break down and get it.

flashburn 06-01-04 04:56 PM

So does anyone know for sure that it has the DTS track? I might dump the original release for it then.

devynal 06-01-04 06:14 PM

I saw it at Best Buy today - DTS was listed.

Thanks!

dcprules 06-02-04 03:51 AM

Yeah, it does have DTS afterall. Sorry about my incorrect info from the post above. Glad they added the DTS.

devynal 06-02-04 03:06 PM

A little addendum: the new widescreen is the unrated director's cut and has the DTS track. The new fullscreen is a regular copy and only has DD.

mdc3000 06-03-04 12:08 AM

Seems like the disc is pretty much the same as the old one with a few new features to promote RIDDICK... not going to upgrade.

Why? The first release has a DTS track as well... probably the same one!

The new Unrated widescreen DVD's movie is exactly the same as the old Unrated DVD's movie - the only difference between that DVD and this one is in the bonus material...

I'll have a review up for this in the next week...it's on my "to do" list for DVD TALK.

For the additional special features. But, from what I read, it doesn't seem worth it anyway.

sfsdfd 06-03-04 04:30 PM

For questions about specific features, please post in the main DVD Talk Forum. You'll probably get better responses there, anyway. Thanks.

Moving thread.

It looks like this has been answered, but I'll add that I have my copy, it has DTS.

Don't forget there is also free movie cash for the upcoming sequel. The new cover art does suck.

Rammsteinfan 06-07-04 12:56 AM

The ONLY problem I had with the new release is that its now TCOR:PB. So now the new movie is just the TCOR. Doesnt it get a subtitle too? They have Dark Fury, Pitch Black, and...

Not to mention the game TCOR: Butcher Bay. I was very grrrr! with the features. I don't know why I thought they were going to be more than fluff jobs. The Johns Journal thing could be cool though (I haven't listened to them yet).

OldBoy 06-11-04 12:01 PM

Overall...is this worth the upgrade or not??

In my opinion, no. I upgraded, but I did not even get the free movie ticket. The only bonus feature that was worth watching was Johns' Chase Log. Everything else is just a very short promo.

why didn't you get the ticket? it was included with all the new releases no?

what is the Johns' Chase log all about? it says it leads to the opening scene. Can you explain?

I do not know why there was no ticket in my DVD. I got it sealed from Columbia House. I emailed Universal and they responded asking a few questions, but I have not heard back from them.

Johns' Chase Log is a 16-entry segment narrated by Cole Hauser on his chase for Riddick, ending with them boarding the ship. It is just has a little back story from the time Riddick escapes until when he arrives on the ship.

Here is a review of the new DVD that I found:
http://dvd.ign.com/articles/521/521269p1.html?fromint=1

I read a few sub par reviews on Amazon as well regarding the extras. They all average only a few minutes in length.

Shannon Nutt 06-12-04 11:02 AM

Posted a review today...I broke the extras down into what's new (exclusive to this release), what's old (what was also on the last release) and what's missing (on the first release, but not this one) to help everyone with their purchasing decision:

TomOpus 06-12-04 11:32 AM

I might have to pick this up since I never picked up the first release.

is it possible that someone bought it from them, opened it, took the ticket, returned it and CH re-wrapped it? i know ive gotten rewrapped dvds from them before.

I don't think so. It still had the security stickers and I received it the day after release. The review I linked to in a previous post also did not receive a free ticket and someone posted they received two tickets, so I think it is just poor production from Universal.

cleaver 06-30-04 10:22 AM

Does anyone know when the movie cash that came with this DVD expires?

icruise 06-30-04 12:02 PM

The movie cash expired on the 27th or 28th I believe. I used mine the day before it expired.

dvdsamurai 07-05-04 02:17 AM

It is basically the same as the older Pitch Black Unrated except they added DTS and changed the name

The original Unrated DVD already had DTS. The new disc is basically the same except that they added a couple of new promotional fluff bonus features to hype the sequel.
