"Believe it or not, I'm walking on air..."

According to a really short blurb on Dark Horizons (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news04/040525e.php), The Greatest American Hero is headed to DVD in the near future. I haven't seen this since ABC was showing first-run episodes but I loved it then. I wonder if I would now? Anyways, I look forward to giving them a spin.

Actual (short) quote:
The Greatest American Hero (DVD): Steve Cannell says "We're hoping to get this series out onto DVD in the very near future".

Highly anticipated. My favorite show as a kid. I even went as him for Halloween once.

I don't think I'd buy that, but I'd definitely check it out on Netflix. Like you said, I recall watching it new, but I don't know if I'd like it now.
Steve Cannell....Is that the same Stephen Cannell who writes about Harry Bosch?

EPKJ 05-25-04 01:08 PM

This was a good show. I will buy it if it is released. Robert Culp was the perfect partner.

OldBoy 05-25-04 01:25 PM

if it is as cheap as V: The Series I will be all over it. This series was a classic!!

spazz276 05-25-04 01:37 PM

Wow...this was a great show when I was younger, I actually just watched "House" recently and was thinking about this show.

Fok 05-25-04 01:43 PM

when I watched this show, I always remembered how I wished he could fly right.

darmok 05-25-04 02:43 PM

"scenario, scenario!"

sledge hammer and now this. the 80s are back!!

rfduncan 05-25-04 03:03 PM

The flying adventures of Ralph Hinkley -er- HANLEY.

I wonder if season 3 will include the 4 unaired episodes along with "The Greatest American Heroine"

Now I can finally record the theme on my answering machine.

I would love to finally see this series from start to finish. I only remember seeing parts of the show as a kid but never saw many episodes. I hope it comes out soon. Robert Culp was great and I liked the idea of the characters looking for that instruction manual for the suit and discovering new things about it as the show went on.

I remember reading some time ago about plans to make a feature film of this but it doesn't appear to have gone far.

Star Wars Guy 05-25-04 03:23 PM

Magic Jammies!

Shannon Nutt 05-25-04 03:41 PM

This is good news...although Mr. Cannell has made this same statement about a year ago - so who knows how far in the future it will be. I'm worried most about song rights...I remember one early episode had important scenes to the tunes of "Rocket Man" and "Eve of Destruction"...the scenes just wouldn't be as memorable with new music.

El-Kabong 05-25-04 03:56 PM

And the great thing is - I seem to recall that the show only ran for like a season and a half. One boxed set and you'll get the whole thing! Sweet.

Wow - A-Team, Knight Rider, Wonder Woman, Land of the Lost! My TV show collection from my childhood is almost complete!

lol. I'm wondering how many of the 350 views are from people who have no idea what the thread title refers to.

There wasn't alot of continuation of plot. Mostly just him trying to figure out how to use the suit.

Believe it or not, George isn't at home, Please leave a message at the beep. I must be out, or I'd pick up the phone -- Where could I be? Believe it or not; I'm not home

It is. It's also the same Stephen Cannell who is responsible for shows like The Rockford Files, Hardcastle & McCormick, The A-Team, Hunter, 21 Jump Street, the Commish, and Profit.

I thought the same thing when I made the post - "I wonder how many people will get this" ;)

You could do that now pretty easily. Seek and ye shall find.

I'd definitely netflix this. I loved the show when I was a kid.

Damn you, both. I was going to post that as well. Great minds think alike.

According to this website, "The Greatest American Hero" had three seasons. The first season was a short one with 9 episodes. The second season was the only full season with 22 episodes. And it looks like the show was cancelled midway through the third season.

But, interestingly enough, there's some unaired episodes in the third season.

I would love to buy this as a complete series and maybe pay around $30 for the whole thing. Do you think people would pay for two short seasons and a full one separately?

jim9 05-25-04 09:45 PM

I'm in for getting this, I was lucky enough to record all the episodes on VHS in 2000 when they were on a canadian satellite channel, need to update to DVD

cultshock 05-25-04 10:11 PM

Kinda OT, but here's a pic of some never produced action figures made by Mego, back when the series originally aired (they exist as prototypes only). I thought that fans of the show might be interested to see these. :)
