For me the original mono soundtracks and the original theatrical poster art (not to mention inserts) on the original releases (1-5) is a factor

THE GOOD FRIDAY THE 13th films

Paramount doesnt own Part 9 and that is already available on DVD from New Line in a special edition.

I held off for ever on the Friday series in anticipation of an uncut box set. Then once I heard the news on this I decided to get the ones out now as Columbia house enrollments.

I got the first 7 in an enrollment package for less than $30. Than for my two fullfilments I pre-ordered The Good the Bad and the Ugly SE and Wyatt Earp along with Jason Takes Manhatten with the $5 web coupon and free shipping for ordering 3 titles.

Grand total of around $80. I figured the two warners would not be much less than $20 on release anyway. So once you take out that $40 I got all 8 Fridays for $40

So thanks to Columbia House I got my complete friday collection, since I already had Jason goes to hell and Jason x

can ya'll imagine if New Line had the rights to F13 1-8? Wow...that would be a helluva set...and it would be worth the $100...

New Line owns the Nightmare films, the box set sells for around $80, all the films are the theatrical cuts, only two commentaries(one new, one old), and a supplement disc with about three hours of content.

And was released about 4 or more years ago. Groundbreaking then, run of the mill now. Guess that's Paramount now: Run of the Mill. Just look at the Indiana Jones box.

You cant compare something from 5 years ago to now.

Elm Street was an amazing set for 1999 when DVD was new and sets werent really done at all.

If it were to come out today, it would be considered disappointing and lackluster as well.

Check out New Lines DVD of The Texas Chainsaw Remake (2 disc) for example. Thats only one subpar movie.

Seeing as the ELM STREET collection is one of the few if only (Alien&?) classic horror franchises available in a set.
I think the Nightmare box set holds up pretty well even by todays standards.
Paramount should be attempting to set the bar with their new FTT collection, at least the same level as the Legacy collection of recent, and they appear to be setting their sights pretty low.
You are right TCM 2003 was on the low end of the bell curve and got the treatment (DVD wise) the original deserves.

The Omen is a box set but it is pretty much feature free.

Sleepaway Camp had a decent box set. Very good for the $22 they charged. It had a lot for that price.

When, I say it wouldntt hold up as well, I mean compared to box sets in general.

With sets like Aliens, 24 Season 2, etc., it's just hard to get excited about the Elm Street box anymore.

Now, in 1999 I was very excited.

With some of the sets today, I would just think bla. Not horrible, not great.

I forgot about that, I bought this on release day at Best Buy sight unseen to get the bonus fourth disc. (plus I now have the OOP packaging). I still haven't watched the whole set, but for the price I paid, the collector in me is already satisfied.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever watched a Jason film. I was thinking I had seen parts, but those were Freddy flicks. And I would have bought an uncut set sight unseen if cheap enough. tsk, tsk Paramount.

I totally forgot about Sleepaway Camp and Leprechaun and The Omen especially not a great set but great movies( overall) and really cheap so the sets seem adequate.

maybe Paramount should make the set a little more affordable, especially for those of us who already have the first releases.
The Nightmare Box is cool for 50 bucks or so but I wouldn't have bought it at its original MSRP.

If the box isn't on sale for around 50 bucks, I am going to pass. I have all ten Friday flicks in my collection already.

Unless this box set comes out with something more special as a suprise, I am just going to get Videodrome as that one movie blows away this box set in terms of how they are doing it.

the boxset has been bumped one week from September 28th to October 5th. Probably not for any additions to the material.

I'll be passing on this as well. I already have all 10 of the movies on DVD, and even though I'm a huge Jason fan, I don't really see a reason to buy them all again.

This box set can kiss my ass.

According to Davis DVD, Paramount Home Video announced a two-week delay for the disappointing Friday the 13th: Special Edition box set, which is now due on October 5th.

I'd like to take a moment to voice my displeasure in this set.

Complete and Utter Disappointment. And that's not even strong enough.

First of all, I'm quite aware that Paramount no longer owns the rights to the Jason character, so perhaps he isnt "important" to them. I find that rationale to be maddeningly disheartening. Why , if they don't want to deal with the character, don't they sell him off to someone who will?

A Retail of $99.95 for 8 movies. On the surface, that isn't horrible, especially when you consider what a lot us(myself included) paid for the movies when they first came out.

A retail of 99.95 for movies with no new extras, probably a horribly stupid looking cardboard box and the most godawful cover art in history? No thanks.

Friday the 13tj 3 : IN 3-D. YOu could have at least done that for us Paramount. Given us the 3rd one in glorious 3-D. But you didn't. Gimmicky? Yeah definately. Would it have been cool ?Yeah, you bet.

3 dics,$22,...the f13 box set,5 discs,$99.99..tthat is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wrong,i hope i get that job in best buy so i can 'buy' the box set when its out..since itll be on Ebay im sure,ill probably get it there since paramount isnt getting any of my money on this

Re: the 3d thing... Does anything think it would be possible that these studios who refuse to release the 3d versions of their films (Friday the 13th Part 3d, Jaws 3d, etc.) would ever allow a 3rd party to license the titles out for a 3d only disc? They could use field sequential technology, and hell, even charge $40 or so for the disc, with Paramount/Universal/whoever getting enough of a chunk of the price to cover what they would make from the lost sale of the plain edition.
