Storage...
Sorry, this is going to be off topic for this forum, I'm actually asking about storage for my CD's. Now that they've gotten close to 600 count, they're starting to take up too much room. I'm storing them in 4 or 5 towers, and it's just getting out of control.
I'm thinking about storing them in "wallets", but I'm looking for something that's either fairly cheap and/or something that I can expand on. Any suggestions? The reason I ask here is I hope for better response than in the music forum. Someone else asked in there about storage (although different storage), got 52 "hits" but no responses. Thanks for any help! |
Check out this site: http://www.can-am.ca/
I personally can't afford their cabinets, but someday I will surely have some of their stuff. Their site is REALLY cool too, check out the animated demo of the TV stand and so on! A friend has these cabinets for his DVD collection and loves it! Some people on this forum have also talked about these cabinets in the past. |
I remember these cabinets being mentioned in other threads...they are truly impressive (and truly expensive)! I too hope to have one of them some day, for my DVD's...because I'll never want to toss the "keepers" for my DVDs (well, I might toss my snapper-cases in trade for "normal" dvd keepcases. However I have no problem at this point tossing the jewel cases for my cd's, which take up too much room.
Any other suggestions on "wallet" storage style for my cd's? |
The Can-Am cabinets are great I have several of them but they are very expensive and cost alot to ship.
You might want to consider getting a couple of the Sony 400 dvd changers you can get them for under $400 which is very close to the price of a 3 drawer Can-Am cabinet and they dont take up much space. |
Can-Am "look"
I really wanted to start a new thread, but I just can't seem to find a "New Thread" button anywhere.
Regarding the Can-Am cabinets, I'm seriously considering getting several of them (to the tune of $2,000+) to hold my LPs, CDs, and my stereo equipment. I've searched this forum and found only good comments on the product. I also had an informative chat with John at Can-Am (a regular on this forum), who is going to send me some sample chips so I can examine the finish and colors. Now my question to Can-Am owners - now that you have them in your home, do you think they look a little too "industrial" for a home setting? That is my major concern. I'd hate to spend the bucks only to have a living room with office furniture. I'd appreciate any comments and opinions. Oh yeah ... can someone tell me where the "New Thread" button is? It's not where the instructions say it's supposed to be. |
My only beef with the Can-Am product is that I want to treat my DVDs like books. They are on display. Sure, I can just put them in boxes but why bother?
The New Thread button is to the top right of the message listing. The icon is hosted on the advertisement server so if you are using ad blocking software, you'll not get that icon. |
I have 2 Can-Am units
I have 2 of the 3 drawer units. I don't think they look too commercial. Unless every other piece of furniture, in your place, is commercial looking, I don't think you'll have that problem. They do have tops you can get for them, to make the units fit a bit more seamlessly. I get several comments on them. I know 4-5 people who have bought from them, based off of seeing my setup. It's a lot of $$$, but when you feel how smooth the glides are, when opening drawers and the appearance as a whole, I get a warm feeling, knowing that it's money well spent. :)

I'm another satisfied Can-Am customer. I've got six of the 3-drawer Can-Am's for my DVDs and CDs. I have nothing but good things to say about the quality of the cabinets. They're expensive, but they'll last a lifetime.

When ordering, Can-Am suggests that you also get the dividers for the cabinets. For those of you who have them, are these necessary, or can you save a few bucks by not getting them?
Thanks for your help! |
It sucks, but you need to order them. If you've already spent the $$$ to get the cabinet, you might as well spend a bit more and get the dividers - otherwise you won't have anything to separate the rows. Now the backstops (I'm not sure if they come w/ the dividers or not) - you could go w/o those.

Could some of you guys that have these can-am units post some pics of your set-up? I'd like to see some pics of drawers with Dvds in them, with the dividers, for reference.
Thanks. |
I have two 3-drawer units and one 2-drawer units, in black with the dividers, cabinet top and wheels, and intend to re-purchase this same configuration when they have another sale. These cabinets are certainly commercial grade (i.e. very well built), making me feel that my DVDs are nice and safe. Can-Am is a pleasure to deal with, too.

I just contacted them a few months ago and they said they probably won't be having a sale anytime soon and that their prices are going up! Found my old thread: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hlight=storage

how do you non-OP's condone a thread that clearly doesn't belong close to this forum and doesn't even remotely discuss DVD's!!!

because it discusses the storage of Dvds Where else would this go? :hscratch:
|
For the same reason there's speaker stands discussion in the HT forum. GEEZ!

I agree that this belongs more in the Home Theater Gear forum. Also, it probably wouldn't disappear off the front page as quickly over there.
As for a special Sale, I also am interested in a couple of these cabinets. If we got together, maybe we could negotiate a slightly better bulk deal. I haven't seen Can-Am (username) around here lately. |

Hmmm so there is a chance of a "group buy" happening.

Well, I'd be in for 2 of the 3-drawer units, maybe 4; but it doesn't look like this thread will stay on the first page, so I guess we are all doomed to pay full price :(
Oh well. Wish they would have a sale soon. |
