Maybe we should rename this thread to be:

Universal Screws Up [Insert DVD Title Here]

That way, we can use this thread for all future releases.

LOL, before long there will be a "Universal DVD Problems" sub-header like "Share The Love" under DVD bargains.

I'd like to point out that the linked article is incorrect in that Keith Emerson did not write "I'm a Man". It was originally performed by the Spencer Davis Group and written by Winwood/Miller.

I doubt this is a concern. There never was much demand for this title and the mere DVD commoners aren't going to see out the "better" version.

Widescreen anamorphic, more than makes up for some songs that don't really mean anything to the movie. I don't really need to hear Emerson covering Spencer David Group (unless it's just a song with the same name). I've heard Brown Sugar a million times & the third song they don't even know what it was? There are so many movies & shows that have to change music all the time. Since this isn't a musical or a movie known for a great soundtrack, who cares? Pretty In Pink was only recently released with the original soundtrack & know what? I liked the changed one better. I can't see how it's better to get a full-frame version just for 3 crappy songs that don't improve the movie- how is Brown Sugar a disco song anyway? Of course it would be nice to have every movie in it's original form (George Lucas), but can you blame Universal for not wanting to pay the Rolling Stones alot of money for a movie that most people don't know & probably won't sell huge numbers. The only thing that annoyed me was that the disc is only single-layer, and the movie is over 90 minutes.

I don't think it had anything to do with paying the Rolling stones for the music or other artists. Looks like they used the wrong copy of the movie to put on dvd thats what makes me angry. There are 2 prints of the movie and when it was released to VHS years ago for some reason they replaced the songs with a score. Now when it was played on Tv they used the correct track. So it was up to them to pick the right print and they screwed up.

Well the music was used perfectly in the scenes they were in. Such as the club scene, the music added to the atmosphere and that song fit the club portion perfectly. With some crappy generic musaque thrown in over the scene,it now loses the edge it once had.

So I can see getting the original soundtrack release over the newer one. Same as getting The Godfather on the original fullframe laserdisc,or older VHS release to have the originla terric mono mix, over the shitty 5.1 only dvd.

Can anyone with the new one confirm how many times Stallone shoots at the end?? There seems to have been a controversy over the ending and if it was cut or not... At least according to here anyway...

I have the Region 4 DVD and it also has the soundtrack changed. I checked it after reading this thread(owned it for awhile had not watched it yet), and you are exactly right about the scene in the club. It does lose its edge because of the change.

I would rather lose some lame tunes by a bunch of old guys, then to see a action film in pan and scam. I think I will buy the Universal DVD over the Goodtimes foolscreen edition over some dumb tunes.
