And the #4 top selling DVD in my area is....
RESERVOIR DOGS!
My dad was reading the paper today and told me to guess what was the #1 top selling DVD was this week. I guessed The Last Samurai since it was just released this week and he said nope, Kill Bill. He told me to guess #4, that it was kinda related to Kill Bill so I told him I had no idea. It was Reservoir Dogs! Is it just the current Kill Bill craze that's getting people to check out Tarantino's other movies or what? I think it's awesome that its the #4 top selling DVD and its 12 years old (and that it was Tarantino's first film :)) |
Do you mean the United States or Indiana?
|
Probably Tarantino "newbies" buying his previous work, that's cool.

I guess I can be considered a QT "newbie". I first watched Pulp Fiction only sometime last year and Reservoir Dogs only a couple of weeks ago...then Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2. I still haven't watched Jackie Brown yet. :)
|
yeah i work at best buy in the media dept. and reservoir dogs actually sells more than kill bill over here.
|
Isn't it only 10 bucks anyways? easy to move a lot of units with a low price and popular title.
|
Actually, not just in your area. Video Business magazine reported Reservoir Dogs having a #5 sales rating nationally for DVD sales, the week Kill Bill was released (Pulp Fiction was #16 BTW). I imagine Best Buy's sale combined with other stores running similar promotions and the resulting increased exposure of Tarantino's other DVDs caused the spike in sales. Since then, both titles have dropped back out of the top twenty.

Good stuff, good stuff...
|
Yeah RD is still selling well, and with the release of Kill Bill that just helped. There were no special sales here in Canada, atleast around me, when KB was released. The sad thing is, when I went to a store they had a section setup of all the previous movies, except Jackie Brown. The guy who worked there said that was not part of the Tarantino collection, I guess not one his more mainstream ones. /shrug

Originally posted by Bill Geiger You aren't missing anything. Was that really needed? But, since we're now discussing the entire body of Tarantino's work... Jackie Brown is an EXCELLENT film. |
Yep. Jackie Brown is amazing.
Robert Forster was phenomenal - terrific film. |
A lot of people consider jackie brown his best movie,i don't but still think its a great movie
|
I would rank them:
1 - Reservoir Dogs - It was such a huge impact film from a nobody director. Hard to top for me. 2 - Pulp Fiction - When everyone is expecting the Sophmore Jinx, he tops himself with another classic film. 3 - Kill Bill (The whole thing) As one long movie it is much better than calling it two..... 4 - Then Jackie Brown - Maybe my expectations were too high on this ? Its not a badf film, its just not as good as the rest..... |
I hate Reservoir Dogs, so ****ing juvenile.
I love his other films though, they're all great IMO. |
Jackie Brown is far and away Tarantino's best and most mature film. Had he not made that one, I and many others would consider him a hack. As it is, he directed a great film, so I have nothing against him. Pulp Fiction is decent. Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill Vol. 1 are his weakest.
(The thin-skinned should mentally insert "IMO"s where applicable.) |
I would rank them
1 Pulp Fiction 2 Jackie Brown 3 Kill Bill 1&2 4 Reservoir Dogs But i love them all, i think the guy is a brilliant, cant wait to see what he does next |
I agree with illenium, Jackie Brown I feel is definately Tarantino's most mature film. It is also my favorite out of everything he's done.

Originally posted by Bill Geiger You aren't missing anything. Wrong. Jackie Brown was a great flick, perhaps one of his best. |
