Which Leon?

I've been doing my homework in which DVD to buy here, but at the various websites, you don't get consistent information. For instance, the regular DVD at DDD has this as the information: <br><img src=http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/images/covers/coveri/COL004730.jpeg><br><br>Notes: The Director's Cut features an
additional 24 minutes of footage
excised from the original film.
Region 1
Keep Case
Anamorphic Widescreen - 16:9
Full Screen - 1.33
Audio:
Dolby Digital 5.1 - English
Dolby Digital 2.0 - English
Additional Release Material:
Trailers - 1. Original Theatrical
2. THE BIG BLUE
3. THE MESSENGER: THE STORY OF JOAN OF
ARC
Deleted Scenes
TV Spot - International Advertising
Campaign
Isolated Music Score
Interactive Features:
Scene Access
Interactive Menus
Text/Photo Galleries:
Biographies - 1. Luc Besson - Director
2. Jean Reno - Star
3. Natalie Portman - Star
4. Gary Oldman - Star

And on the Superbit, you get this:<br><img src=http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/images/covers/coverd/30_39/212238.jpg>

Region 1
Keep Case
Superbit
Widescreen - 2.35
Audio:
Dolby Digital 5.1 - English
DTS - English

Anyone care to tell me the preferred DVD?

Is it:
<img src=http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/images/covers/coverd/30_39/212238.jpg><br>or is it:<br><img src=http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/images/covers/coveri/COL004730.jpeg>????????????????????????????

People have complained that there is an issue with the DTS track on the Superbit. I have the bottom version and it works very well for me!

RockyMtnBri 05-06-04 03:42 PM

FYI, this topic has been covered before. If you do a search you'll find a bunch of responses.

DVD Josh 05-06-04 03:45 PM

I believe the DTS issue was fixed on later printings of Leon. I'd go with the SB myself.

ukywyldcat 05-06-04 03:56 PM

Thanks for the info. I guess my question is, are all the extras the same...meaning, is all the crap I listed above for the normal version included on the Superbit?

matome 05-06-04 03:58 PM

The Leon Superbit has no extras. On some rare cases Superbits may have a trailer, but that's it. Superbit Deluxes have two discs with the second disc containing all the extras (never a commentary track though)

ukywyldcat 05-06-04 04:02 PM

Thanks!

Problem solved. I had ordered the non-Superbits the other day from DDD and its on the way, and wanted to make sure I made the right choice before removing the shrinkwrap.

Seems I have.

dyevin 05-06-04 04:42 PM

before you unwrap...

you want to read this

i'm pretty sure DDD will have the corrected version, but just to make sure.

Rypro 525 05-06-04 06:24 PM

so there is a corrected version of the dts track? is it substancially different from the dd, or does it kind of sound the same. and how does teh picture look.

conscience 05-06-04 08:20 PM

On the regular version...I don't remember there being any deleted scenes. Only the footage that was in the uncut version which is this disc.

Fok 05-06-04 08:21 PM

Does the superbit have the 24 mins of extra footage?

Is there any visual marking on the package itself to distinguish the fixed pressing from the initial pressing of the SB version?

This statement will be false when Spiderman SB comes out in June. CTHE shoots themselves in the foot by including a commentary track in the Spiderman SB, an alleged elite line of DVDs that they claim to have the best presentation by ditching extras and maximizing video bitrates.

Lara Means 05-06-04 11:27 PM

The DTS SB edition has not been fixed. The original release was.

digitalfreaknyc 05-07-04 12:49 AM

The original release never had a DTS track.

Al Padrino 05-07-04 01:54 AM

I'd say buy either one because you know that this bad boy's getting a SE release down the road.

BasiaMille 05-07-04 02:02 AM

I think we'll be okay here, Leon...

Not necessarily, Al. Don't forget, this is SE-shy Luc Besson we're talking about. The R2 SE of Fifth Element is an aberration, and an inferior print, to boot. I like to think of Besson as a French Woody Allen: Good Movies, plain-jane DVDs.

... the similarities end there.

If you can play Region 3, I believe there is a version with both Theatrical and extended cuts and extras. See dvdcompare for info.

landosystem 05-07-04 06:38 AM

I would like to cast my vote as saying that the international cut is vastly inferior to the more subtle and interesting american version. Also the new scenes are poorly acted and detract from the rest of the film which I found flawless.
Anyone know if there is a good DVD release of the original american theatrical cut?

I think you could get your license revoked.

If you can play Region 3, I believe there is a Hong Kong version with both Theatrical and extended cuts and extras. See dvdcompare for info.
I think you mean the Korean version...

Where do you live, I'm sending the Professional over to you.

sataniko 05-07-04 08:44 AM

I have the International Version and I'm very happy with it.

I think he meant to say he lives on Cloud Nine instead of Cloud City because that's just a ridiculous comment he made. How is the American version better when scenes are cut from it that explain other things in the movie? I could see if the cut scenes were meaningless, but they actually served a purpose, which is why it's so stupid they were cut in the first place, just because censors like to tell us what we're capable of handling.

And I said we can expect an SE version of the film down the road because I believe R2 recently got one or will be getting one soon.

Don't bet on it. No one even knows what the extras will be (if any). It's going to be 1 disc with DTS and DD5.1 PLUS, that version is being handled by Paramount. It's a Columbia title over here.
