In my apartment this year (I'm in college so it's a standard 12-month lease, never live in the same apt more than once, etc) the mailman has gotten to know me and my roommates. I've put 2 of them onto DVDs and buying them en masse, and we'll get a package at our place every other day at least, and since the mail comes up to 4 times a day here (something I find very strange) via different mailmen it's tough to know names 'n all, but they know I'm in #18 and if I happen to be walking home from class and they're putting things in the boxes, they'll wave me over and get my mail from the truck for me, very cool I think.

My uncle is a mailman up in PA and he does the walking route in a small town (he's older), and I know that around Christmastime he gets thousands of dollars worth of GCs and cash for presents from the people along the route. There is definitely the possibility of the mailman being some psychopath, but even is he is, then talking to him and being nice will probably only insure that he won't slash you up someday, so why not. The One Hour Photo does strike home a little bit though... creepy.

And welcome to the forum alexei! Are there any other Russians on the boards here?
