Did you ever stop to consider how much crap your partner thinks YOU have? All things considered, I think the people being discussed in this thread are far more patient and acception that those posting in it.

This is probably more like it.

My wife's not into DVD's that much, so I'm sure she's being VERY patient with my crack-like addiction to them.

She's pretty open-minded when it comes to movies, and we like a lot of the same stuff - but let's just say I watch stuff like I Drink Your Blood alone!

My own home, my own DVDs. My pets never complain. If you don't see it, I didn't want it.

In order to keep the peace and continue feeding my addiction, I take the Sunday ads and read them to the Mrs. to see if their anything she might like. So I end up with things like Cat in the Hat and Blue Collar Comedy Tour, but can still buy things like Schizopolis and Bullshit!

In my house, it's definitely the Charlie's Angels movies. I wouldn't have purchased them without her urging (although, I actually, sort of like the first one).

I'm not married either, but let me just say this, we have two DVDs in our house that I would never buy.

Chicago
Seabiscuit

My wife was kinda into the whole dvd collecting for a while - back when she realized I was serious about it and it's going to be an ongoing thing. I also told her that part of the collecting is winnowing down those that she didn't feel too strongly after a while. So now the only ones that I really can't care about are a couple of madonna and mariah carey music vids. There are probably around 50 titles that we consider as shared collection but those are not separated out.

Overall, it's not too bad. We both dislike cliches strongly so that ruled out most chick flicks. When we watch movies, most of the time, we do it together - which is not easy since we watch around 10 movies/week (we have tivo and we don't watch tv that much). Our tastes have somehow converged, I guess

My wife thinks buying DVDs is stupid (she just rents), so I have none of those (so all the chick flicks I have, like 4 Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill, are there because I like them). I don't even buy her DVDs as gifts, because it would be like I was buying it for me.

I do have a few I got free from my mom that I'm kind of embarrassed by:
The Mexican
Osbornes 1 and 2 (which I haven't put in my collection yet, due to it being so embarrassing)
The Man in the Moon
The Last Time I Saw Paris (whatever that is) and
Bloodwork (only a problem because it's Full Screen)

Of course, I could just get rid of them, but I'm much too compulsive for that.

The title of this thread seems to suggest that your wife is not capable of having her own collection of films and that you must keep them for her like you would a small child.
I think you're reading a lot into that title. Sure, it's an assumption that the majority of people here are male, but it's a valid one. Even if the vast majority of posters were female, though, the question simply wouldn't apply to them (not having wives) or would be modified to include them (ie "your husband").

But I don't think it's unfair to assume that if a person who comes to a site to discuss DVDs is married to somebody, that person won't be nearly as obsessed (since most people aren't) and, further, that the person -- thus a casual movie fan -- would be likely to have movies which a more hardcore collector would scoff at. The title says nothing about "keeping the movies for her", the point is, if you get married, your stuff becomes each others stuff and, thus, your household owns things which you yourself -- as a DVD collector, ignoring being a husband for a moment -- wouldn't have bought. It's a pretty simple question, and I think it's funny how much you twisted the language around to make it remotely sexist.

Sure, it'd be more PC to say "my spouse", but who wants to be PC?

My Wife's DVDs:

Annie (1982)
Devdas
Enough
Fried Green Tomatoes
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
Much Ado About Nothing
Norma Rae
Secret Garden
Steel Magnolias
Stuart Little
Thelma & Louise

I don't necessarily hate all of these... I just wouldn't own them if it weren't for her.

I know you're kidding, but actually I only listed the DVDs that I know I wouldn't own if it weren't for my wife... There are other "chick flicks" that I own that I didn't list, because I enjoy them.

You haven't been to Circuit City on a Tuesday in Hawaii . "Dear, go get me Last Samurai Widescreen and oh! don't forget ...insert DVD title here..." as some woman proceeds to shove her husband/bf into the pit forming in front of the new releases. I've seen man, woman, and child run rampant for DVDs so it's not limited to one group.

Whenever my wife and I browse through a used DVD section, she will ALWAYS wind up with 5 to my 1.

I twisted nothing around. The title of the thread and the posts speak for themselves. As another poster mentioned, I'm sure you guys have "questionable" titles in your collection as well. Hell, we all do.

No. I think you're jumping to conclusions. I owned DVDs before I married. Nearly everyone of the DVDs I listed was bought after I married. I would not own them if I wasn't married. Therefore, "I keep it because of my wife."

Not only do I think that my wife wouldn't be offended with my post, I think she would agree with it. And you know what? She'd have a list of her own (about me). So what?

Does that mean she's treating me like a little kid, keeping my DVDs?

I was hasty in my comments. The films on some of these lists are pretty bad. There is no way I would have some of these in my collection....unless, of course, my partner wanted them

Here's a link to my wife's collection. She has a couple of things that I would likely have bought for me if she didn't already have them, but this collection is very distinctly her own which is why it is not catalogued as part of mine.
