Universal studio DVD's...

I was wondering, is there any way to skip the Universal promo on their DVD's. It seems on some Universal DVD's there is a montage promoting their other DVD's. Are we stuck watching them? It seems the fast forward and skip chapter button does not work, and the menu botton does not work until the advertisment is over. Same thing with the "Copywirte warning". First we get it in english, then in french. Any way to skip it? The reason I ask is sometimes I start watching a DVD, then I go to take a phone call or do something, and when I come back I have to hit "play" on my remote, and it takes me back to the begenning where it shows the advertisments and warnings. It would be nice to know how to skip over it.

That shouldn't be happening - you should pick up exactly where you left off. Check your DVD owner's manual, or post your model # here, because that's not the way it's supposed to be...

Welcome John. Hit STOP and then Menu. Should do the trick.

Those are known as "forced trailers." Its just one of the many reasons alot of DVD enthusiasts despise Universal as a studio.

Some discs have the STOP button disabled during the forced trailers. You'll then have to press FWD.

It all depends on your player. Some will let you chapter skip or "menu" to get past, others won't. Sometimes hitting stop and then play (or menu as suggested) will work. Mainly, you just have to find what works on your player!
<P>PS -- Welcome aboard!

For the players that allow it, the key is to hit stop during the FBI warning. If it gets to the point where the "forced trailers" actually play, you're pretty much SOL.

I suppose we'll get these on Peter Pan. Man, I dread enjoying Universal movies these days.

I think the only way is to go into Scene Selections and go to Chapter 1 instead of just hitting Play.

Yes, but you can bypass the Universal forced trailers by hitting Stop during the FBI warning screen. Then you can hit Menu to jump straight to the menu.

If you wait until the FBI warning has passed, well then, yeah you're screwed.

Or you can just fast forward through them in a few seconds. It's a nuisance, but not that bad.

I just start it and leave to grab a beer / popcorn / etc. Come back right as it is finishing up.

Oh, and sometimes they work on me as i will checkout a movie i would normally pass over - so by that alone I doubt they are going to stop putting them on there.

But should we have the option to skip over the advertising? Why should the studio force us to watch the advertising if we don't want to? I think the smart thing to do is add previews as an extra in the menu, so if you want to see it you can.

When I try and fast forward, an image appears on the screen of a circle with a diagonal line through it.

Because they're trying to advertise their other properties and forcing them to play is another way to make sure a large audience sees them. Its really no different from the VHS days and every other form of annoying advertisement
