Censored crowd responses for the Wrestlemania XX DVD

In an interesting note, the WWE has decided to use their editing powers to alter the crowd reaction during the Goldberg/Brock Lesnar match on the Wrestlemania 20 3-disk DVD set that will be released next week.

While the "you sold out" chants remain, most likely because JR & King make reference to it during the match, the WWE has edited out the "This match sucks" chant. Also, they have changed it around so that Goldberg isn't booed at all during his encounter with Lesnar.

This isn't the first time that the WWE has used their editing power to change around crowd reactions. During the Royal Rumble in 1992, Hulk Hogan was heavily booed when he helped eliminate Sid Justice from the match after Justice eliminated him. However, when they aired the clip of Hogan pulling Sid out, the crowd was now cheering for Hulk. The WWE has also been known to add cheers to their taped shows in places where crowd response was either very little or none at all.

This might be your most horrific misuse of the word "Censorship" yet.

Very "WCW-ish" for the WWE to pull something like this - just is a testament to how far out of touch they are with wrestling fans.

It may very well be "WCW-ish" but WWF/WWE was doing this type of editing years and years ago. Fans are supposed to think the WWE way.

I guess it's time to consult "alternate" means for uncensored crowd chants

Heck, I was mildly excited to get the set purely for the laughability of that match. Now there's no reason to get it .

It's still fine.

It's fine because they didn't say anything about editing camera shots. Goldberg's still gonna look horribly lost and angry. Lesnar's DEFINITELY still gonna look mad as Hell. And Austin's STILL gonna look completely bemused at it all. It sucks there's not gonna be the unedited match there, but it'll still be hilarious just knowing what was going on.

Later.

No matter if the crowd is "censored" or not, I'll always have the memory of being there and being one of those who booed Brock Lesnar out of the building.

OK someone must tell us what happened now... I have not followed it for years but am interested in this match.

Any insight would be great!

stole this from the "official wwe wrestlemania xx thread"

"You sold out!"
"Lesnar sucks!"
"AUSTIN! AUSTIN! AUSTIN!"
"BOOORING!"
"Goldberg sucks!"
(Goldberg and Lesnar hug for a while)
"HOGAN! HOGAN!"
(crowd starts watching and chanting at something in the crowd)
(spear from Goldberg)
(jackhammer)
(crowd cheers that the match is over, then goes immediately dead)
(Goldberg stands in each corner of the ring garnering the complete indifference from the crowd)
(crowd sarcastically waves goodbye to Brock)
"YOU SOLD OUT!"
"NA NA NA NA, HEY HEY, GOODBYE!"
(Brock flicks off the crowd)
(Brock flicks off Austin)
(Austin stuns Brock)
(crowd offers first real cheer)
(crowd boos Goldberg and Austin sharing a beer)
(Austin stuns Goldberg)
(crowd offers second real cheer)

Boy, what a great WM match!

It wasn't that bad, it was just plain ugly. I'm not a huge wrestling fan, but I usually buy the PPV's (especially WM XX) and I have to say this was the worst "match" I have ever seen in the history of wrestling as we know it. Hell, even The Rock beating the Big Boss man in a 8 second thriller at Survivor Series in '98 was more entertaining than Brock and Goldberg. WMXX was RUINED because of that match. Now that I'm done ranting my only other main problem with WM XX was the length, it was about 4 hours and 40 mins long, that's just way too much to be watching one PPV. I wonder since they're editing the crowd, if they're going to edit the uses of the f-bomb both Goldberg and Flair used.

They hit the nail dead on the head with the way the match went.

The Gobbledy Gooker vs Doink would probably be a better match than the WM XX match between Lesnar and Goldberg.

But on the whole, WM XX wasn’t really such a great event. First off there were no TLC, no hardcore matches, no cages, absolutely NOTHING!! As for the actual matches:

The two tag titles matches: the less said the better.

The evening gown match: slightly amusing but that’s it.

Jericho vs Christian, Big Show vs. John Cena: good enough for a regular PPV, but not WM.

Cruiserweight match: just kinda bad

Victoria vs. Molly Holly: eh? Is this Raw or WMXX?

The Rock & Mick Foley vs. Evolution: not too bad

The Undertaker vs. Kane: A big let down

Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle: Is this a Raw main event or WM??

Triple H vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels: Only excellent match of WM XX. Then they had an instant rematch.

I thought the crowd was the best part of the match and made it one of those ugly classics. The match itself was horrible, simply because they really seemed to let the crowd throw them off. There was seriously at least five minutes that passed before the two even made contact and you've gotta believe that the crowd being on both of their cases from the beginning played a part in that.

Hearing the crowd turn against two guys that had been well-liked for the most part was just surreal and hilarious.

But on the whole, WM XX wasn’t really such a great event. First off there were no TLC, no hardcore matches, no cages, absolutely NOTHING!! As for the actual matches:
Those things are visually pleasing but the longterm effects they have are just too much for the company to run them on even a semi-regular basis. Cage matches are probably as good as you'll get, but I think you can pretty much write off TLC matches and hardcore matches for the most part. The former caused WAY too many problems down the road and the latter has simply grown stale.

Is this true? I'd hate to have to dig out my VHS of the taped PPV to find out (not that it matters).

The WWE does pipe in crowd reaction at times. During a recent Raw with Benoit and HBK in the ring it was hard to tell what the crowd was chanting becuase there seem to be 2 or more chants at the same time.

The thing about the 1992 RR is definitely true, as I have both the PPV version and home video version. There are noticeable cheers when Hogan is eliminated, but those are toned down and changed to boos on the commercial release.

I got to download some sound clips from the dvd that someone ripped and the "You Sold out" and "Na na na na" chant can be heard perfectly.
