What are the MUST have/see gangsters movies???

Well I know the Godfather is at the top of that list…

What are the others?

I’m planning on getting Untouchables and Goodfellas (waiting for better edition that where suppose to be out a year ago!!)…

(and when is the Godfather single disk being released??)

I already have Scarface, Carlito’s Way, Road to Perdition(unlike many people, I liked that one)…

What are the other ones??

its a tad contraversial if they are gangster movies or not, but you can't go wrong with "pulp fiction" and "reservoir dogs". and you can't go wrong with the 30's gangster movies as well (public enemy, scarface, and little ceasar.)

A Bronx Tale
Deuces Wild
Oscar (ok its a comedy, but I liked it...)
Someone else mentioned Casino, but to complete the Trilogy with Goodfellas you need the first one - Mean Streets
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch

...I'm sure Ill think of more, but those are some of the best off the top of my head....

Unfortunately, most of the early WB gangster classics (Little Caesar, Public Enemy, Angels with Dirty Faces, The Roaring Twenties, White Heat, etc...) haven't been released on DVD (though rumors pursits that Warners is "working on them"), but some of the Bogart titles (most notably High Sierra) have come out in the last year.

Don't forget about "On the Waterfront" either. All the other ones I'd recommend have already been recommended.

I like foreign mob movies as well. I'd recommend "City on Fire" (great flick), "6ixtynin9" (although only available on VCD at this point I believe--GRRRR), and maybe some stuff from Japan like "Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl" which I thought was a great lil manga-induced yakuza romp. Also for the older stuff, "The Musketeers of Pig Alley" is wonderful (although extremely dated, and of course, silent). I'd also throw in "Sexy Beast" even though it isn't a typical mob movie, but Ben Kingsley is great.

EDIT: I only recommend these crazy foreign flicks cos all my top ones from the modern US have already been listed. Can't beat "Casino", my favorite gangster movie ever.

other than the ones recommended, The Last Don--with Danny Aiello and Jason Gedrick--ain't too shabby. it was originally a "made for tv" movie.

This was discussed in the thread titles "Is Casino OOP?".

You should be able to find some places that have it for about $20 buecks, but not for too long, however, as according to the other thread, it has been discontinued from production.

There is a rumor that this is due to a 10 Year Anniversary SE, but there has been no official announcement.

Regarding best gangster movies, I would give another vote for Casino, Once Upon a time in America, and add the comedy Analyze This and even the lesser sequal Analyze That, as both are pretty funny.

I don't know if these qualify as "Must see" but
"The Long Good Friday" and "The General" were both good.
