I wish he could get the rights to better films. I had this before and it blows munkeys. I haven't heard any of his commentaries yet though. I need to pick up that ISOYG:ME I guess

Maybe Elite will release a Night of the Living Dead and Re-Animator w/JBB commentary?

TomOpus 03-18-04 06:13 PM

Joe Bob's commentaries definately elevates the films' entertainment value. Even if you don't care for the movie, it's still a good time. But then... YMMV.

Thanks for the post, gut!

Is that Stan Lee on the bottom left?

I've never seen the movie but saw some clips of it on that Midnight movie show that Sandra Bernhard hosted in the mid-90's. It looked like a winner!

Joe Bob's commentaries definately elevates the films' entertainment value.
No doubt! I don't know how many times I've watched ISOYG just for the commentary alone.

Gore_Hound_X 03-18-04 07:36 PM

It's not Stan Lee, here is a pic of the cover sans JBB. I have no idea who any of those folks are

The gentleman in the lower left corner is the great Forrest J. Ackerman, creator and original editor of "Famous Monsters of Filmland" magazine.

yup...and he plays the museum caretaker. man...I cant wait for this. I'll be enjoying the commentery first, then at some point will go back and re-watch the film. I dont remember much from the last time I saw it and I feel a JBB education is in order.:D

The fact that I know full well who Kitten Natividad, Haji and Forry Ackerman are, really reveals my true tastes in film.

Ginwen 03-18-04 09:35 PM

Excellent. I'd be glad if he'd do commentary on some (slightly)better movies, but there's really not much need, since JBB is one case where it's worth the price of admission just for him.

My only complaint is that Elite takes so long to get out these Joe Bob Presents sets. I would like to see at least three per year.

Pointyskull 03-19-04 08:06 AM

Yes, the movie is a stinker. More of a vaudeville-ian curiosity than anything else. Nudity is minimal (mostly old stills of Kitten), but plenty of top-stretching goodness, regardless.

Joe Bob's commentary might be good for a laugh, however.

Here's my
review of the original DVD release, if you're bored...

I think the whole point of this series is the Joe Bob commentaries. He has a great sense of humor which combined with his arcane knowledge of bad movies makes for highly entertaining commentaries.

No doubt. I'm a big Joe Bob fan, as well.

It's just that if the movie was better it might make for an easier purchase. Marketing a disc JUST for the commentary might be a tough sell...

I understand. This is not a movie I would buy without the commentary. This was not true of I Spit On Your Grave or Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter, both of which I would have purchased even without the Joe Bob commentary.

I know, I know. nobody puts out dvds fast enough for you, EPKJ. :D

for some I guess. for me, it's JBB tearin' up the stinker while providing essential info...thats half the fun. MST3K featured some crappy movies too...even though it was not an official commentery...it was a running laughfest. same thing here. I find the crappy films much more fun, and people like me will gobble this up and choke on it. please JBB...do more stinkers.

That is true, the stinkers are entertaining, but occasionally on his old show (on Cinemax) he'd have a decent movie (that's how I saw A Better Tomorrow)--it was still really entertaining to watch (that was intros, not commentary, but commentary would be great too).

I'm not sure how many saw it, but his "friend", John Bloom, used to do some really funny pieces on different churches on the Daily Show when it was first on (at least I thought they were funny, but I am a bit of a sucker for anything Joe Bob).

gutwrencher 03-19-04 04:44 PM

you bet yer ass I'll buy his "better movie" titles with his commentery! I'm not that big a fool.:D-wink-

I'm just going through my fondness phase for bad films.

Buford T Pusser 03-19-04 08:53 PM

Looks interesting. Hopefully Netflix will get this one since they didn't get the original issue. I'd like to hear the first commentary as well as JBB's commentary.

ArchibaldTuttle 03-19-04 09:08 PM

JBB rules how many dvds are out there that feature his commentary?

2....soon to be 3 with this release. I Spit On Your Grave and Jesse James Meets Frankensteins Daughter are the first two, with JJMFD being the first "Joe Bob Briggs Presents" release.

http://images.rottentomatoes.com/ima.../45/199545.jpg...is a MUST HAVE.

EPKJ 03-20-04 04:44 AM

Yes, I Spit On Your Grave is a great genre film and deserves to be owned in its own right. The Millennium Edition is definitive. It has a Meir Zarchi commentary which is informative and fascinating and a Joe Bob commentary which is both entertaining and a well articulated defende of the film. All genre fans should own this.
