The wife and I used to rent from Hollywood Video about every week or so, but I would always return late, and pay the fees.

Then I had some sort of epiphany that I was tired of renting and wanted to own them, so I stopped renting, and started buying. 319 DVDs later, we haven't rented in about a year.

Hollywood Video.

I rent about 5 DVDs a month, so it all works out OK for me. 5 day rental is awesome.

I hate renting from BB, 2 day rental - no thanks.

I joined Netflix about 6 months ago and it's been great! Averaging about 25 movies a month with them right now. It's been real handy on weeding out titles I don't want to purchase.

I also rent from Hollywood and Blockbuster, but only when I have coupons.

Started renting with Netflix in 1998 and have not set foot in a video store since. I have been renting at FilmCaddy for about a year now. You can't beat the value and the ability to keep a movie as long as you want. I don't know how many late fees I paid to Lackluster video because I didn't get around to watching a movie within their timeframe.

When I do rent, which is rare I usually go to Blockbuster, I haven't tried any online format like Netflix yet.

I've considered Netflix, but I honestly only rent about once or twice a month on average. There's a rental place in the grocery store a minute from my apartment. Catalog DVDs are 49 cent rentals, new releases are 2 bucks. It's decently stocked... the back collection even has some Criterions (not just the typical mainstream ones like Tennenbaums, Amy, etc.). The only flaw is they have limited copies and occasionally get the full frame versions only.

I'm open to Netflix, but I'd probably only do it in the summer when my TV schedule is lighter.

I buy every movie I care to see when it comes out and is on special at one of the big box stores...watch it a time or two...if I like it I keep it if I don't I sell it on eBay within a week of buying for usually what I paid for it. I consider it my free rental system.

I've rented maybe two DVDs since the format has been out. When I did, it was at a walk-in shop.

Personally if I'm interested in a film, I'll just buy it (or borrow it from a friend who has already bought a copy). Probably not the most cost-effective way of doing things (given you can rent for about 1/6 the price), but it's the way that I do it.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I used to do... Now I trade em' or every now and then toss one up on eBay... I haven't rented in years, Blockbuster can go to hell and die for all I care (plus they ran every mom & pop in my town out of business). Netflix might be OK but I'd still rather buy and watch when I want to...

And... GO CATS! :)

Option 4 - Don't rent DVD's, only buy

asianxcore 03-18-04 09:28 PM

from a rental shop. there is a really great place near my house that has specials all week (such as sunday/monday rent 2 get 2 free etc etc)

I rent maybe 10 a year or so, usually at Hollywood Video. My wife rents more, so probably netflix would be ok for her, but she wants whatever she wants right now (not whatever happens to be in that's on her list) so she didn't really netflix for the month we had it.

I dont rent much, but go to my local Roger's Video (Im in Canada) when I need to pick up something I cant justify buying.

Also buy some of their second hand titles when they drop to around $10.
