DVD collection, I stopped sorting them... not enough space, just not worth the trouble. Though the problem is, I haven't a clue what I own. Is my DVD profiler accurate? The world may never know...

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread. I've been out of town for a week and have been too busy to reply ever since I got back.

As someone else mentioned, I got it at Allposters.

uNCSUcks, are those poster frames from Suncoast? If so, were you able to get posters in them without wrinkling or bubbling the posters? I have several of those frames and the cheap cardboard back makes it hard to get the posters in flat.
Actually they are from AC Moore. I havent had any problems with the posters wrinkling or bubbling.

Great TV, I bought my parents the same one. Have you had yours tweaked or just did it yourself?

I tweaked mine using Avia and it looks great. Eventually I will probably do an ISF Callibration though.

As demonstrated by retihsuhnt's post, your blatent lack of DVD organization has just caused half of the members of this forum to have OCD induced aneurisms.

I hope you're proud of youself . . .

I'm graduating this quarter in college and working only part time, so i don't have all the fancy stuff you guys do. I pretty much do everything on my PC... DVDs, TV, Games, etc... which suits me just fine. Could use a bigger monitor though :) Plus, my apartment walls are paper thin so even my little speakers have made my neighbors pound on the wall. I have a few movie posters that i need to frame before i put up too

Are those speakers the Logitech Z-640's? Those are going for free at my local CompUSA and it ends today. I've been tempted since Sunday to buy 'em. Currently using Creative Inspire 4.1's on my pc. How are they?

poorly lit :(

I tried taking pics of my widescreen tv and they just don't turn out good.

fumanstan 03-18-04 07:04 PM

Hey! Leave my messy room alone! In all fairness, that picture is a month or so old.. it's a bit cleaner now :) As for the paper towels and trash can... hey its finals week, gotta relax somehow....

Yeah, those speakers are the z-640's. The bass is really loud, although the midrange on the speakers are a little weak. But they're cheap and solid, and work just fine for my apartment.

Hay *RG3*...you happy with those Benno shelves? Looks like they may work well for my collection and I'm thinking of picking some up. They hold about 70 DVD's right?

I'm more or less happy with them but the only issue is that they're heavy. My father suggested that I drill holes in each of their quadrants so I can secure them with toggles without the Benno's heaviness ripping apart the sheet rock. I still think the wall would be fine holding another wall shelf but but my parents are against it.

I suppose the best thing to do when mounting the shelves is to find a beam to secure them into. I love them though because they hold such a good number of DVDs.

Heres my neat hometheatre set up. I used to have a big screen but the convergence went hay wire and it drove me to the brink of insanity so I bought the X1 projector. It works fantastic best money I've ever spent. You wont see any dvd cases because I have them all boxed away in storage considering a 1,000 dvds takes up way to much room for the size of my room. So I keep them all in large dvd/cd books that you see under my books.

Rypro 525 03-18-04 10:47 PM

red x's puddytay

and i will try to get mine on here soon.

DVDTalker002 03-18-04 10:57 PM

Hey I have a question for some of your people. Alot of you have awsome dvd collections, but horrible looking tv set ups? That doesnt make sense to me. I would much rather have a really nice tv then a ton of dvds. Maybe it's size constrainments or something. I was just curious because it makes no sense to me. Before I bought any movies I bought myself a nice tv. I mean if your going to use a tv from the 80's or 90's you might as well be watching vhs because the resolution of the tv isnt going to be good enough for you tell the difference.

*RG3* 03-18-04 11:09 PM

Puddytay,

My set up sucks because I'm broke from getting all the DVDs. I plan on getting a nice 43" Sony Plasma and kick ass sound system but it's going to take some time to work up the proper fundage. Until them I'm stuck with my 27" Toshibia flat screen - which I can't complain about too much.

ukywyldcat 03-18-04 11:29 PM

I agree puddytay.

ignition 03-18-04 11:55 PM

While I agree as well, I still almost prefer watching my DVDs on my 32" crt Toshiba than on my 57" HDTV. Both have 5.1 set ups, so the sound is generally the same. However, my crt just gives me a clearer picture it seems.

Don't crucify me here, as it's entirely possible there's some setting that's off on my HDTV. I just got it and I haven't had time to really fuss with it.

Also, a great deal of my DVDs are cult classics and TV shows, which really don't look all that great on an HDTV. Watching an episode od DBZ on a widescreen HDTV looks like ass compared to what it looks like on my CRT Toshiba.

Just my opinion, although I do agree that having 500 DVDs and a 13" black & white TV is absurd.

fumanstan 03-19-04 12:17 AM

Quit making fun of my messy room!

I don't really see anything wrong with it. For many people, they don't need a 50+ inch widescreen tv to enjoy the movie. Even on my PC, DVDs look great and sound great. Would i like to have a better setup? Sure. But i also want to rewatch the movies that i enjoy. Plus, it sure is a lot easier to justify multiple 15-20 dollar purchases then one 3000 dollar purchase.

The PCs have dozens of wires going to and from the TV/Components. PC also acts as DVD player, via DVI output from MyHD DVI Daughter-Card. Thus, they are as much a part of the HT as any other component.

Well...I've tried bigger and supposedly better TV's...and just dont get it...I've had 40inch HDTV Widescreen TV and a 30inch HDTV Widescreen TV...and just didnt like it...I just prefer to watch movies on my 32inch Toshiba...thats running on 8 years old and looks just has good as the day I bought it...if I ever get a new TV...its gonna be a 32' HDTV 4:3...and with a curved screen...

Actually in the process of moving the tv into the basment, it just got finished and am waiting for the furniture to come next week. Will take some new pictures then.

I thought having a 50 inch tv in my room was crazy but puddytay you have a projection. Thats insane man. How old are you?

DVDTalker002 03-19-04 07:16 AM

I'm 20 going on 21. I used to have a 56' panasonic hdtv and will never buy another tv ever again. This projector and set up only cost me about 1,100 dollars. It was worth it and I recommend everyone else doing the same.

I agree completely. I started buying all my stuff before I really got into the DVD collecting. If I'm going to watch something that is of reference quality, I want a near-reference system :)
But if you don't have the money, you don't have the money. Just start with a nice HT fund and let it grow until you have some money for the setup. And that is a crazy HT setup for the bedroom man. Must be comfortable as hell :D

I always thought once you go flat you'll never go back, but I could be wrong. Maybe you just need to see some HD material on that HDTV. Personally, I'll never settle for a curved screen or any screen/TV less than 50".

BigDave 03-19-04 07:53 AM

Here's my setup:

http://riggs.tamu.edu/images/dvdtalk/ht_setup.jpg

Each side can hold about 150 DVDs. My wife likes the design because it hides all the DVDs and they don't get as dusty.

Well both of the Flat Screens I had had problems with the flat screen image and such and could not be fixed even going into the main menu where you adjust everything...I prefer the curved screen...guess Im just old fashioned...
