Nightmare Before Christmas:SE question

I can't believe it's not an anamorphic disc; my blood is boiling.
Anyone know if it's the same transfer as the current disc?
Personally, I would have preferred an anamorphic disc over DTS.

DAMN THEM!! DAMN THEM TO HELL!

I actually like the Special Edition's transfer even without it being anamorphic.

It's the same exact disc, this is just a price drop.

I am not sure what is going on here, but I just watched my copy last night, it is anamorphic. I just went back to verify this. Did they rerelease it anamorphic without telling anyone? I did buy it only about 2 months ago.

I don't think it is. Unless you have a R2 version (which were all anamorphic).

I don't know what to tell you, it absolutely, positively is. It is the R1 release.

I've read it was only non-anamorphic, but all of the reviews have said it is still a perfect transfer.

Tim Burton's "Vincent" short is also on the release, which is reason enough to buy it

......................

......................

Vincent Malloy is seven years old,
He's always polite and does what he's told.

For a boy his age he's considerate and nice,
But he wants to be just like Vincent Price.

He doesn't mind living with his sister, dog and cat,
Though he'd rather share a home with spiders and bats.

There he could reflect on the horrors he's invented,
And wander dark hallways alone and tormented.

Vincent is nice when his aunt comes to see him,
But imagines dipping her in wax for his wax museum.

He likes to experiment on his dog Abacrombie,
In the hopes of creating a horrible zombie.

The OOP print CAV Laserdisc edition has some Henry Selick animation he had done for MTV.

I think perhaps you aren't completely sure what anamorphic is. But it's just not possible for you to own something that was never made.

You know, thats what I was thinking too. All I know is on my TV if I select 16:9 on my Malata, on a Non-Anamorphic Widescreen movie it will windowbox it. However, on Nightmare (and on all Anamorphic Titles) it is displayed correctly.

Well now that you are using a region free player I must ask again: are you SURE this is a R1 release?

I bought it at Bestbuy, so I am pretty sure.
I don't really understand it either. But, to me, judging by the way non-anamorphic and anamorphic movies are displayed on my tv, it looks like it is anamorphic, even if it isn't.

Check the mode you're actually in, since some non-anamorphic dvds will trigger the zoom mode automatically, just like 16x9 full is triggered.

That makes sense, when I get home I will try that. I know for a fact in the menu's it was still set to 16:9, maybe once the movie started it triggered it to go back to 4:3. I'll find out tonight.

One side note: I watched this twice on my 'Full' (for anamorphic DVDs) setting on my front projector, then played it on the 'Zoom' (for non-anamorphic DVDs) setting on accident and realized I was watching it on the wrong setting the entire time.

The moral of the story is that the movie almost looks correct in anamorphic mode even though it is truly non-anamorphic. Just thought I'd let you know about my dumb mistake (won't happen again on any DVD, I'll just look at the box to make sure what it is).
