Will Altman's "Short Cuts" ever come out on dvd?

New Line's got the rights, so I'm sure they'll put out a good version of it. But why's it taking so long?

I wouldn't mind a Criterion version.

Here's what the Criterion laserdisc had:

Outtakes and deleted scenes
Interview with Pauline Kael
Supplemental audio essay by Michael Wilmington
Documentary: Luck, Trust and ketchup, including behind the scenes footage of the making of Short Cuts and interviews with Robert Altman and all the stars
A guide to the music on the soundtrack
Complete text of Raymond Carver short stories
Guide to the stories
Over 100 production stills
Print advertising, television spots, theatrical trailer and more!

The interview actually played on an audio commentary track. It's the only audio commentary I can think of where the speaker trashes the movie relentlessly.

The Michael Wilmington "audio essay" offers the counterpoint later.

It's pretty crazy that we've got Images & Three Women (neither had a vhs release) but no Short Cuts in sight.

I would love to hear Kael's meanderings - I hate her opinions, but at least she's well thought-out.

I don't know what the hold-up on "Short Cuts" is.

This film has been "in the pipeline" since 1999. I don't know if the hold-up is something legal, or just New Line dragging its feet. If it's the latter, then I'm sure Criterion would love to have a crack at it if New Line isn't interested.
