And the most you've overpaid to get a DVD is?

The fact that Ed Wood is going for ridiculous amounts on eBay makes me wonder just how much you've overpaid to get a disc in your collection.

BY OVERPAID, I mean, over what it is/was in stores for. I don't mean the quality of the disc or how much value it had to you. Sheer financials here people.

Spartacus Criterion Collection, 50 smackers that DVD was. It's a great one nonetheless.

The Boondock Saints.

I paid tons of money for a Canadian version back when the US didn't have a release. I was pleased with my purchase--until I saw a different version for ten dollars at Best Buy.

i paid almost $200 to order an R2 box set of Dark Angel which included the pilot and only the first 1/2 of the season.

i had just gotten my region free player and felt i needed to justify its purchase.
i figured a series that had failed so miserably would be a long time in coming to R1- especially considering how long it was taking Buffy to start showing up.
the next spring of course the entire seaosn was available for under $50

other than that,
$40 for the OoP first non-anamorphic edition of Re-Animator

$50 on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs because my fiancé collects disney movies. Crappy part is I bought it when it first came out for $20 and then sold it because I never watched the thing.

I also bought the region 2 version of She, The Ultimate Weapon which was 5 discs for about $50 a disc.

I paid $900 for a R1 City of God, but it has a DTS track, so...

Seriously, though: Sixteen Candles / Weird Science. Paid $75 for the pair when they were out of print. Luckily, I unloaded them for about the same 2-3 months before the re-release.

I've double dipped plenty and sometimes done so just for a unique bonus feature, but I've never paid over MSRP for a disc.

Paid around $20 for Beany and Cecil: Special Edition when the list price was $29.95...

About two weeks later, Image dropped the m.s.r.p. to $9.99 and I could have ordered the disc from the same etailer for $7
(And yes, I had already opened it...)

I'm not stupid, I don't overpay for DVD's. If I can't get it on sale I don't buy it. In fact that is my motto for basically everything in life not just DVD's. This is also the reason I don't own Duel on DVD even though I would love to.

I only overpaid when I paid retail. I paid $29 for Ed Wood. I paid $27.99 for Snow White. Other than that I won't pay anywhere close to retail.

Paid around $40 for The Killer (Criterion) just after it went out of print from a Canadian dealer and $40 for Animal House when it went on moratorium.

Jane Austin's Mafia MSRP about $30.

Very early in the addiction and I had some Border's store credit. We have watched it a hell of a lot though, so it's not too bad.

I've never paid more than the MSRP for a disc. And I don't think Ed Wood is going for ridiculous amounts. You can get it for $40 which is only $10 more than retail. Not bad for a disc that was never officially released.

I paid $25 for "Freddy Got Fingered" on ebay once. I think I got ripped off. That's what I get for drunken bidding, I guess...
