YES
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articl...ryanboxdvd.jpg Morning, folks! We've got more details for you on the extras to look for on Universal's forthcoming Saving Private Ryan: D-Day 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition, which we mentioned yesterday. The 2-disc set will boast 5 featurettes (including A Look Inside with the Filmmakers, Looking Into the Past: The Research, the Vision and the Screenplay, The Making of a Platoon, Boot Camp for the Cast and Re-Creating D-Day: Omaha Beach). Additional features are TBA. None of these are on the current editions of the film, so i might double dip on this one |
 Nice!! Guess I will be double dipping on this one... Thanks for the additional information.

Is this a new transfer?

Ugh. With new features I will be forced to triple dip.
|
i highly doubt it. Why would it need it. the grain and weak colors were all intended by Spielberg. |
As much as SPR is a great movie, I will stick with my current DTS release. Plus I'm enjoying Band of Brothers too much right now to think about SPR.
|
The more I think about it, the less I feel about buying the new version. I just have a feeling the featurettes are gonna have that "slapped on" approach that plagued the Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can DVDs.
|
I am going to double dip on this one...i love watching featurettes, especially for war movies. This is assuming there is no quality difference from the earlier release.
|
The transfer on the original disc was great for 1999, but not so good by today's standards.
I might double-dip for a new transfer. Otherwise, I can't see buying this one again. |
Hope these two deleted scenes show up:

So yes if my eyes have not seen them they are riviting. |
Hmmm...looks like there is going to be separate DTS and DD release again. Amazon has taken DTS out of the details, and over at DVD Town they have menu screens of the discs. Notice the audio options screen.
DD Version DTS Version |
Well, i am not suprised they are doing this again. I think everyone will be getting the DTS track as long as its as good as the last versions... I just hope the dont hold anything back this time with extras if you get the DTS
|
I may just have to double dip on this one...
|
No new transfer = No sale
|
Anybody else find it mildy amusing how everytime HD-DVD comes up most people chime in saying they won't upgrade but then tons of people will double or even triple dip for something like this? :)
Just an observation. |
Still trying to figure out if this will have the old special features as well as the new ones . . . :hscratch:

Originally posted by talemyn Still trying to figure out if this will have the old special features as well as the new ones . . . :hscratch: Also it seems that there will be separate DTS and Dolby Digital versions. I'm getting the impression that there won't be any substantial improvments in terms of video/audio quality (unless Dreamworks suddenly saw the light and is doing full bitrate DTS). |
Yes, the DTS version will also have a DD 5.1 track (as is mandatory) in English, whereas the DD version will have a French 5.1 DD track as well.
The extras will be all new and will not contain the two features found on the previous DD release. As I have the Dolby version of the first disc (it was one of the discs I bought with the player back when I got my first DVD player) I'll probably get the DTS version. This is one worth double-dipping on. And I know what you mean - once HD-DVD players are cheap I can't imagine anyone won't upgrade, especially if they release fairly bare-bones DVD releases and HD-DVD releases simultaneously. Who else hopes that they won't change the packaging for HD-DVD? I love the keepcase (although I suppose they could be "shorter" since there's a lot of wasted space on the inside). |
Back when Amazon still showed the features for their DVDs, the listing for the box set (with the two extra WW2 DVDs) claimed the SPR disc with the set had an "exclusive DTS track."
I'm assuming that the new DTS version will only be available in the set and the Dolby 5.1 will be the only new standalone version. |
