Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie?

I know that this disc is OOP, does anybody know where I may be able to find a copy, outside of eBay?

It's also available as a marketplace item at Amazon, but usually at very high prices. This is one of the Image/Universal titles that hasn't been re-released yet.

At the risk of committing heresy here, since the DVD version is now selling at an average of about $100 (based on ebay closing prices), I'd consider a used vhs copy (about $5-10), if you just want to enjoy the movie. You'll laugh just as hard with the vhs. The current DVD is widescreen, but not anamorphic (release date was Oct. 2000), and the vhs looks pretty good in comparison (I've had the DVD, and recently found the vhs at Goodwill for a few bucks). I'll be first in line if they re-release a better DVD, but for now, the vhs is fine if I want to see the film.

Sad to think these and other Image releases were in bargain bins for $9.99 only a few years ago. Hopefully it will get a good rerelease at some point.

I regret not picking it up before it went OOP from an investment standpoint. I saw it many times for as low as $10 new on DVD before it went off the market. The reason I never picked it up was because I already had it on VHS. I agree with dvd2001 on this just grab the video, the DVD has no special features on it really and the AV presentation isn't mindblowing. I love that damn show heh...Rhino is putting out the 5th Volume of the MST3K box sets in a couple of weeks, I already have it preordered

Yeah, go with VHS until Universal gets off their collective butts and puts out a re-release (still waiting for this... Flash Gordon... This Island Earth... Double Indemnity... grrrrrr)

I see the video tape in FYE stores quite often for $4.99. Should keep you going until the eventual/inevitable DVD.

I was one of the ones that paid $100 to obtain it off Amazon. I'm glad I own it. But I still can't believe I paid so much for it.

I believe Starz was showing it rather often recently. Keep an eye on mst3kinfo.com for info on stuff like that.

THIS ISLAND EARTH always seemed pretty funny even without the comments. I think the uncut DVD is also OOP though.

The uncut This Island Earth goes for more on ebay. I've been watching it lately. I could have kicked myself after I saw an auction end at about $30. I don't know why I didn't get in on that.

And I don't know what you folks are getting at about the image. The old film parts of TIE don't always look so hot, but I watch this zoomed on my 16x9 and the host segments look great. It's only a 74 minute feature, so the compression must have been pretty low. I'm very glad I grabbed a copy before they disappeared. I just can't believe I didn't get TIE at the same time

keep an eye out on Half.com. sometimes you can get expensive OOP DVDs there for cheap. i just recently found a copy of the HBO release of Kickboxer (the one in anamorphic widescreen) on Half.com for, get this, 10 bucks!! most of those are up into the 40 or 50 dollar range now. needless to say i was very pleased with that.

I sold mine last year for $261 on ebay. (Turns out I sold it to a bootlegger who easily made her money back, but I couldn't know that at the time!)

The average bitrate of the MST3000:TM disc is 6.37. The sound encoding might be PCM, I can't remember, and the disc is at home while I'm at work now.

I've still got my VHS copy, so I'm in no rush for the DVD to be re-released (though it would be nice). But anybody who pays such high prices for that DVD is a chump.

Scour your local used DVD stores. I happened upon mine by accident. (Or was it fate?) It was being held behind the counter for someone else when I asked an employee about it. He looked at the tag and said the hold period had lapsed and I could have it if I wished. Well, I wished! At $12.99, I think I did okay!

The box says it's PCM, but according to my player it's not. It's either 256kb or 384kb 2.0 DD.

It wont be rereleased. Rhino no longer has the rights. Neither do the MST3k producers.

Are you talking about the movie?

Universal has the rights (and always has). They gave Image Entertainment distribution rights to the DVD until the end of 2000. Now the rights have reverted back to Universal and there is nothing preventing a rerelease (other than Universal's own cluelessness and inertia).

Any sign yet?

I'm surprised that this (one of the hotest bootleg sellers if you look at ebay) isn't scheduled to be rereleased yet.

I'm kicking myself for not grabbing it for about 10 bucks when I had the chance. Later I refused to pay the high prices on ebay for it, so picked up the laserdisc instead for 8 bucks. Its letterboxed (the DVD wasn't anamorphic anyway) and has a good Dolby surround digital track. If you have a LD player, its the best way to go right now.
