Disney's Black Cauldron Question

Hey all,
Did a search but came up with nothing. My question is, is there a defect in the authoring process for this disc? The last minute or so of the movie has a green line going up the right side of the screen. Has anyone else noticed this? Also, I remember watching this when I was younger, but don't remember it being quite as "scary". I guess that's why Disney was very reluctant on bringing this out on video (for over 15 years for that matter I guess). Also must be the fact it's Disney's only PG rated full length animated movie.

Lilo and Stitch? Treasure Planet?

Sorry,
Should have added "up until the 90's". But either way, I know that Disney was ashamed of it. Also, did your DVD have the green line up the right side toward the end?

I don't recall seeing a green line. I'll try to find the chance to look for it. And yes, it is "scary" for a Disney film!

Please read Lloyd Alexander's books, if you haven't already. I was very happy Disney brought his idea to the screen, but The Black Cauldron really is but a shell of the source material. There are five books in the Chronicles of Prydain, and they're all great!

The Book of Three
The Black Cauldron
The Castle of Llyr
Taran Wanderer
The High King

As for the dvd, I watched it a few times when I first got it, and don't remember such a condition. I might check it out again this weekend. If can get to it, I'll report back.

My disc doesn't have a green line either.

No green line on mine.

They certainly are... I'm still holding out hope that one day someone will have the sense to make a Live Action film series based on these books...that would be entirely awesome (in fact, I'd like to be that person)....

Anyhow, no green line here.

Okay...no green line! Whew!

The green line up the right of the screen can only really be noticed when watching on a 16x9 set (1.77), not a standard set (1.33). Since the disc does not have an anamorphic transfer, it has a black border on all four sides. About the last 30 seconds of the movie, along with the credits, there is a green line going up the right hand side. I've gone through 3 discs from 3 different stores, and they all have this problem, so I assume it's an authoring issue. To really see the line, watch it on a widescreen set without zooming the picture in (i.e. watch it normally). You will see it.

Kimiakane 02-20-04 03:07 PM

:( Well that would explain why I didn't see it then.

You'd probably be able to see it if you popped it into your DVD Rom.

I don't have Black Cauldron so I can't comment

Unless you have a widescreen monitor, your computer screen has the same shape as a standard TV, so you won't really see it I played the movie on my computer also, but couldn't really tell, but I did notice it was still there. I'll try to post some pics off my tv soon.

Why don't you post a pic so we can see what you're talking about?

I will as soon as digitalpose.com comes back up. The site seems to be down right now.
