USA Today Column on Classic TV on DVD

Says Warner Brothers has an aggressive 5-year plan for release of its classic TV series, including "77 Sunset Strip," "Maverick," and "F-Troop."

I can't believe "I Married Joan" is coming to DVD. That's an obscure show (though it does feature Jim "Thurston Howell, III" Backus).

I don't care. Quantum Leap is a go. Everything else is gravy.

With all these TV shows coming to DVD, I might as well get rid of cable!

Considering all the money that show "loses" every year... at least that's what Universal's accountants keep telling James Garner's attorneys...you'd think they'd be rushing this out on DVD in an attempt to recoup some of their investment!

The problem with TV shows on DVD is that if sales are not good enough they will not finish the series. My wife is still waiting on "Mad About You"

Tell me about it. Here is another thread that delved into what you are saying at length:

They're probably holding off because there's a movie in the works (see the Movie forum).

F Troop! Yes! I watched reruns of this in the late-80s/early-90s when I was growing up. Helped mold me into the positive member of society (read: worthless joke-slinging slacker) that I am today! I'll definitely buy that.

Patty Duke Show would prompt a purchase from me. Haven't gotten Lucy or DVD, but did get the GI. PD was one of my favs as a kid.

I agree, I would probably shell out for Patty Duke if Patty did some commentaries!

I believe Dukes Season 1 is supposed to be out in late summer, but no official sale date yet.

I would love to see WB issue some old Westerns like Cheyenne and Bronco or the private eye shows as well (Bourbon St Beat, Hawaiian Eye, Surfside 6). Though most people have forgotten about those shows since they haven't been seen in syndication for years. WB Home Video did issue a couple of the Western episodes on VHS in the early 1990s.

All I ever wanted on DVD:

Maverick
Rockford Files
Magnum PI
Monk
Columbo

I was praising Universal last year for announcing Rockford Files & Magnum PI. I curse them to this day for building up my hopes only to let them crash to the ground.

Today I celebrate WB in bringing Maverick (my fav on the list) to DVD. They now get the Honorary title of:

My FAVORITE Company EVER...until another company releases something I want....*stares in direction of universal*

Bring of F-Troop and The Dukes.

Also from Warner I would like Night Court and Growing Pains.
