Received a CANADIAN Criterion, anything to worry about?

eBay seller cleverly failed to mention this during the auction. I haven't opened it, but save for the lack of spine number (gasp!) and a few small symbols the outer box looks the same.

Is there any content / quality / compatibility issues I need to be worried about? He said he'd refund, but it was a good price, so I'll keep it if everything is kosher.

Blame Canada! :)

lol... as far as I know they just put that damn red sticker (or print) on the cover.

From what I understand any U.S. R1 title is good in the U.S./Canada so as far as compatibility goes, the same should be the same for Canadian releases. The only thing I can see being different is subtitle spellings. You'll notice things like "theatre" or "colours" instead of the American-English spellings.

Unless you're bothered by the various differences in box art and the subtitle changes, then I'd say keep it -- especially if you got a deal.

The box art is different? That shouln't be. AFAIK, the Canadian Criterions have the number on the spine (I've a few). I wonder if it's a bootleg.

I'm assuming the DVD in question is Traffic.

This is the only Criterion (that I'm aware of) which was "Canadianized". As you stated, no spine number and there's 2 logo's on the front (one indicating Alliance).

The content is identical - so it just comes down to how important the spine number and artwork is.

Alliance offered to replace the cover with another one that has a spine number (but would only accept it from Canadians since this wasn't supposed to sell in the US)

Of course, if it's another title - then I know nothing about a Canadian version.

Here's the Canadian Traffic: CC cover:

Yeah, if it's not Traffic the lack of a spine number doesn't sound good.

Yes, it is indeed Traffic. I also received a number of other DVDs from the seller that were bilingual, so I don't think it's a bootleg.

Coral - that's it! Thanks. I have all of three Criterions anyway, it was the content (and quality) that was most important to me.
