What alterations were made to the Indiana Jones Trilogy?

Forgive me if this has been covered, but I couldn't find anything in a search.

I was reading the editorial on www.thedigitalbits.com regarding the Star Wars Trilogy and saw this:

"Lucasfilm has a history of including little surprises in their films on DVDs - new moments, extended scenes, subtle and not so subtle alterations. It happened with the Episode I DVD, with Episode II, the Indiana Jones Trilogy and even American Graffiti."

Now, I know about the removal of the snake reflection. Is there anything else they changed?

I am unaware of any changes either. Perhaps they are talking about the "renaming" of "Raiders of the Lost Arc" to "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc." Now this change only appears on the packaging of the films, so if it bothers you a lot, I think you need to loosen up. To my knowledge, the film has not been altered.

They digitally removed the thing that launches the giant boulder in Raiders.

There is a long thread in the HTF that discusses the changes but I couldn't find it.

Didn't they also remove the post that launched the truck when it explodes in Raiders?

And they slightly altered the bug that lands in Belloq's mouth.

I think all the alterations done for Indy were to clean up the picture for goofs.

The post is still there. The bug looked the same as it always has.

I assumed the article was talking about the snake reflection.

Certainly not as major as the tweaks made to Episode I + II, but a change nonetheless.

(Note, the change to American Graffitti -- adding a digital sunset -- is probably equally minor to that in Raiders.)

I think the general point is that Lucas has altered just about everything he's released to DVD, in one form or another. And we can likely expect changes (either "major" ones ala Ep. I, or "minor" ones ala Raiders) to the SW Trilogy as well.

In Japan, Greedos shoot first and women shoot second. Or sometimes not at all!

Many of the FX matte shots throughout the IJ trilogy were cleaned up (i.e. matte line removal and grain clean-up).

Instead of making a new thread just look through these...

IMDB

Click "alternate versions" for each one.

Will he alter Howard the Duck into a whole new movie?

getting this back on topic, I tried for a little bit and wasn't able to find the thread on HTF. Anyone have a link? (Or, better, a list of changes)

In addition the changes made previously, there was a line changed in Raiders, talking about Nazi treasure, that originally went something like "donated by the finest Jewish families in Europe." The line was changed to omit the Jewish reference so it now goes "donated by the finest (weird pause) families in Europe).

Now that's the first change mentioned that pisses me off.

It's not in 'Raiders', it's in 'Last Crusade'. The change was made by Spielberg at the time of the video release.

According to the digital bits review at the time of the DVD release: "We're told that some 14 minor fixes were made to these films in all." [Though, technically, they don't say whether they're counting the one which had already been made to 'Last Crusade', I kinda doubt they are.]

The ones they mention are: "for example, when Indy falls into the Well of Souls now, you won't see the reflection of the cobra on the glass that was placed to protect actor Harrison Ford. Also, when the giant stone ball rolls after Indy in the opening of Raiders, a support beam that guided the ball on the set has been erased."

funny you should mention that....

as a matter of fact, george lucas has a team of experts at ILM working 'round the clock - in shifts - developing a complete CGI HOWARD to replace the existing one for his Special Edition DVD - also out on 9/21 (to tie in with star wars)

only bad thing, the original version of Howard The Duck will never be seen again, as this will be George's ultimate vision........

They did erase the most obvious glare in the snake pit, but there is at least one other shot of it that they missed. You don't even have to be looking for it to notice, either.

The mistakes are part of the film's charm. I would have been happier if they left them alone, but hey, these don't bother me as much as if they would have changed it to say, the snake shooting first.
