Comcast and Disney

Comcast cable has announced that they are willing to take over the Walt Disney company. Disney execs are going to discuss it.

Walt and Ray Disney must be having fits.

Comcast was offering about 10% over. Right now, Disney is up to $27.60 per share.

I wonder if Eisner is starting to sweat. seems like everyone is ganging up on him at once.

Hopefully Eisner won't do anything rash, like agreeing to this before he can get the boot.

Yeah, this worries me on a few fronts. For some reason I like to think of Disney as a parent company w/o some OTHER corporate deal over them. I also hate the idea of ANOTHER mega-merger b/c those just suck. But it seems to have worked for Time/Warner, who says it won't work for these guys?

But we'll just have to wait and see how all of this plays out.

It's Roy Disney, not Ray

If anything, this is probably good for Roy. It would mean the end of Eisner pretty much. Plus, Comcast has said they will make animation the center of the company.

Still, to have a cable company buying up Disney shows how things have changed in the company in the past few years. In the mid 90s, it would probably have been the other way around. With them buying Miramax and ABC, they were doing pretty well.

Do you mean Time "Please don't call us AOL anymore, dear god that was the worst business decision in history" Warner?

The sharks are all circling around Disney - they can smell blood from miles away and all of the big boys want a piece.

It seems to me like Eisner has been trying to make Disney look attractive for a takeover for years - he'd stand to make a fortune out of the deal.

But Comcast, as big as they are, may not be big enough to not appear to be a defeat for Eisner & Co.

You get bought out by a Sony, that's one thing. You get bought by a little cable company, that's something else.

Ever since Pixar divorced itself from Disney they have the smell of vulnerability about them. Comcast is just striking while the iron is hot.

Damn Comcast,I was going to buy Disney next month,oh well guess maybe i will buy the yankees instead

UAIOE 02-13-04 01:13 AM

Maybe we should all chip in together and make an offer for Disney ;)

cinephan 02-13-04 01:26 AM

There was a report the other day that the Disney board is looking for someone to replace Eisner "whenever" he decides to step down from his position. Usually that means that someone will soon "suggest" that he step down from his job as soon as a replacement is found.

Jackskeleton 02-13-04 01:43 AM

I highly doubt this will go through.

GMLSKIS 02-14-04 01:06 AM

I love Disney and hate Comcast - I don't want this.
