Ever had to sell your DVD's? I mean HAD to?

I had moved to Austin back in August, and to make a long story short, I got in quite a financial bind. There wasn't any options for me, so I had to sell off 300+ DVD's to a used book store (not to mention a 27" TV and reciever/home theater system to a pawn shop). I moved again in December, and all I have left are about 50 or so DVD's.

I really hated doing that, but I needed cash in the worst way. I had sold off box sets, Criterions, OOP DVD's, you name it. Now, it's hard for me to get excited about the latest DVD release. Doesn't mean I won't ever buy again (though I haven't since, well, August), but it's just not the same anymore. I guess I could try to build another collection, but jeez, ya know?

Has anybody else ever had to do something like this?

Nope.

Every once in a while, I will sit back, and look at my collection and think "Why the hell did I buy this title?"

It is then that I may throw one up on half.com or eBay, but it is just to cleanse my collection, not out of need.

Yes, but just a few discs here and there. The ex-g/f had money issues, so I had to make the ultimate sacrifice. At least the ones that I sold were HER movies

Now that I'm away from her, my collection has grown by leaps and bounds with no end in sight.

If I need a little extra cash and I know a new DVD of a film is coming out eventually, I'll sell the OOP one. I made about $150 last summer and it helped buy my school books, but it was a long wait for the Alien Quadrilogy and now I'm pretty ancy for the new Dawn of the Dead.

Not DVDs but a number of years ago I had to sell off a number of fairly rare books to raise some money, so I know what you mean.

Nope. I decided to open a savings account so this will never happen to me. Plus if I did have to sell them I'd buy a DVD burner first.

Yes, recently I had to dump 50 or so dvds because I was broke and needed money for school bad, but I suck it up and march on . Since the majority of dvds only go down in price over time I can always buy again down the road should the urge arise.

Every few months I try to weed out the collection. I get rid of discs that were blind buys that I didn't like or movies I've grown tired of. The money goes right back to my collection. It keeps everything manageable and I never run out of cash for new purchases.

nope...but when I was younger, I had to sell about 200 cds. it killed me. I told myself I would never put myself into a position like that again.

I dont sell out of my library for any reason. I dont have to weed out because my choices are flawless and are there to serve a purpose...not just take up space.

Sell it? No. Give it away? Yes, but only because I double dipped on a better version.

A couple years ago, yes... I was strapped for cash (i.e., didn't have a job!), so I unloaded a pretty large chunk of my collection. Must've sold off around 50 or so, at a time when I only around 70-something DVDs in my collection. It was pathetic; I wiped out my entire Spielberg, Oliver Stone, and Hitchcock films in the process.

I only kept the DVDs that I received as gifts, while anything else that I got on my own were sold. I've since then replaced most of the titles I had lost.

Other than that, now and again there are just a handful of DVDs that I really don't want anymore, so I don't care much about selling those.

Shoot, folks that are having to sell back to buy back stores should e-mail me first. I'll pay more than they would, for the right titles...

Never have. And hope I never will have to. But I would like to one day voluntarily sell all my dvds (after burning back-up copies).
