American Splendor Le Cercle Rouge |
Monday

The Accidental Tourist - I generally don't like romances with characters I can't root for. 5/10
Kiss Me Kate - A great twist on an otherwise minor play. 7/10
Trouble in Paradise w/ commentary - Not particularly enlightening, but well worth the time.
Ararat - Complex storytelling some of which seems extraneous at first. 8/10 Tuesday
25th Hour - The third act and the hate-filled monologue work against whatever morality the story was going for. 5/10
The Nun's Story - As close to an expose as could have been made, for its time. 7/10
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert - Campy fun. 6/10 Wednesday
Paris, Texas - I don't think Wenders' brand of fantasy is to my taste. 6/10
Sunset Boulebard - One of Wilder's best, with a cynicism well ahead of its time. 8/10 Thursday
Straw Dogs w/Commentary - Excellent; actually made me rethink my reading of this film. Friday
On Dangerous Ground - Rural film-noir; should have been longer. 6/10
Dogtown and Z-Boys - An insider's look at Skate culture for insiders. 6/10
Knockaround Guys - One of the most ridiculous stories I've seen. 3/10 Saturday
Laurel Canyon - A nice cast but I just didn't care for the characters. 5/10 Sunday
American Buffalo - I expected something better from Mamet. 3/10
The Minus Man - An offbeat tale but lacking in any real depth. 5/10 |
