Comic Book: The Movie - Full Screen Only?
 

Picked this one up at Best Buy and every version they had on sale was full-screen. I'm assuming that this was the way it was shot, since the movie is shot on hand-held video. Just wanted to confirm with someone in the forum.

I know this is the wrong spot to ask, but I got no response when I asked in the correct place... but, does this have an insert? Mine did not, and it seemed like a comic-book-type insert woulda been a natural, ya know?

more to the point, is this thing worth the 2 hours of my life it'd take to watch it? I'm kinda curious.

I thought I would love this movie, so I got it as a blind buy. The cameos were okay (esp Kevin Smith and Hugh Hefner), but this thing seriously sucked.

It is (insert running time here) that you'll never get back.

I have to agree, I enjoyed the cameos but found the rest to be unwatchable.

Another thumbs down from someone who thought they would like it.

It would have worked better as a straight documentary (like TREKKIES) rather than the fictionalized one it is.

I thought it was great...I mean, yeah the best part of the film is probably the Kevin Smith segment (especially if you know Kevin Smith's Superman story), but the rest of it is pretty good as well.

crap...total crap.....i also blind bought it...i had never even heard of it and now i know why...they tried to keep us from watching it to protect us...

I bought it today and just watched the entire set minus the commentary and loved the shit out of it...guess ya gotta be a real fanboy to like it... :D

No, it doesn't come with an insert. And for the record, I really enjoyed the film. I mean, come on, Mark Hamill, Billy West and Tom Kenny? How can you go wrong?

The commentary is great. It's really a cameo film. Amost everyone that shows up onscreen is either a cartoon voice or comic book writer. Kevin Smith and Bruce Campbell are great( the extended Bruce Cambell interview is funny as hell). The panel with all the voice actors is incredible. But the movie itself is so-so. Only a few laughs and the rest looks like a cheap imitation of the Chris Guest films. But since thats only 90 minutes out of about 5 hours worth of entertainment, it's worth the price.

Sounds like I'll be treating this like Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back... keeping it, but because of the cool/entertaining extras, not because of the film itself. It's a rare situation with me, but I guess it does happen every now and then.

Now, if DDD would just get my copy to me sometime this year... ;)

I agree it should have been done the same way Trekkies was done. The true story of Comic geeks and people in the industry is interesting enough. Doing it Guest style was pointless.

Mark has said quite strongly (including to me when I interviewed him), that he didn' want to do a Trekkies-style piece because he felt that film was making fun of the fans. He describes himself as one of the type of people he captured on film. If he did it straight, it wouldn't be very funny because neither Mark nor the Comic-Con organizers would have allowed the type of Trekkies "crazy fan" stuff that made that film so popular.

I liked it a lot too. It was hilarious and the extras were plentiful and all in all a good buy. I only got it because Bruce Campbell was involved but turns out, I liked the whole thing.
