What are the best OOP DVDs?
Before you start, by OOP I do NOT mean the ones that are worth the most. I'm simply asking this, in case there are any DVDs out there that I simply am not aware of since they are OOP.
Just for the heck of it, I'll start by listing one I think is great, and one that is fairly obvious so I'll just get it out of the way.
Fight Club: 2-Disc

Of those I have, I would nominate Anchor Bay's Herzog/Kinski box set. It's officially OOP, but can still be found at quite a few Borders locations.
I'm also happy with four OOP Criterions: Charade, Silence of the Lambs, Dead Ringers, and The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

I'll also add the very under-rated Rabid Dogs from Bava. although a new edition is being prepped ...I'm glad I paid like $60 for it last year.

Wuthering Heights is definitely a great one.
Also, I own Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie and I love it. It is not the greatest DVD in the world, but I love the film itself. Gettysburg is very good as well, and it is OOP. And do not forget the Universal Classic Monster discs - classics such as Frankenstein, Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein...etc - GREAT STUFF!
I do think the Hitchcock Criterions are supposed to be OOP by the end of the year. I think the rights go to Universal then, but I am not 100% on that.

I'm gonna second Charade, the best transfer out of all the previous releases of the film and an absolutely hilarious commentary.
Disney's Tarzan: Collector's Edition has a ton of great extras, I especially liked seeing all characters evolved through their sketches.

Some of these have their faults but they are movies that I like (and own) that are OOP.
Black Rain (S. Imamura not R. Scott)
Liquid Sky
Frankenhooker
Martin
The Funeral
Double Indemnity
Pixote
The Bride Wore Black
The Tin Drum
Slaughterhouse-Five
Out of Print Criterions

Can't really think of any more off the top of my head but looking into the future i would suggest picking up 'Straw Dogs CC' before the end of the year when Criterion will no longer own the rights.

The best OOP titles, in my opinion, are the Tati's:
M. Hulot's Holiday
Mon Oncle
Playtime
If they had grooves, they would be worn out.
But the best ones truly are the ones you can find in the used bins at a cheap price.

Do you know who's prepping it? I've been holding off on paying $$$ for the current OOP.

Rabid Dogs dvd
Exister,
now we know we cant believe rumors on the internet. I just heard back from Tim Lucas...Bava historian and master at Video Watchdog. when I asked about the possible new release of Rabid Dogs coming soon....he responded with the following:
that says it all. I'm very happy I have it!!!! you better jump on it.....
peace,
Gut
Edited to add: I dont see a copy, except on tape, over at Ebay. damn...this may end up being one of the most rare films/dvds ever.

It's an unfounded rumor. RABID DOGS will never exist on DVD in that form again; I would recommend buying the next affordable copy you see on eBay. Alfredo Leone owns the film now, and he has re-edited it into a new version called KIDNAPPED. If there is a DVD release, that's the version we'll get.

Thats a shame about Rabid Dogs (and if anyone knows about the status of the film, it would be Tim). Guess I should have grabbed a copy at a reasonable price when I had the chance.

Of the ones I own:
Fight Club 2 Disc is excellent. It is OOP but not impossible to find. Same goes for the Abyss two-disc five star version (except for the non-anamorphic transfer...).
Dog Soldiers is one of my favorite horror/action flicks. The DVD was actually pretty good with an OK commentary track and great extras. They ripped it off the market fairly quickly, I think it was only available for a few months.
Tati's "Playtime" is definitely my favorite OOP CC disc (used to be 400 Blows, but the new one is even better than the OOP version).
I also have the MST3K: The Movie disc, it's definitely one of the best episodes of the show, but Mitchell and Manos are much more easily available (as they're in print) and just as good, IMO.
The Scarface disc kinda blows, can't wait for the new one.
The Akira Special Edition in the tin is the best OOP packaging I've got, the disc set itself is still available in different packaging and great.
Since all legit, Reg. 1 versions of Hard Boiled and the Killer are OOP, it's nice to have them. Unfortunately, in the final analysis, the discs kinda suck though.
The MIB Special edition 2 disc was a very nice set with excellent packaging in its day, I'm not sure how current versions stack up.
