What happened to EDUCATING RITA ?

EDUCATING RITA is a great film starring Michael Caine and Julie Walters from the stage play of the same title. Caine is the professor and Walters is the student. Get the picture? A year or two ago there was an announcement that it was going to be released than it was pulled and not heard from again. This was a Columbia release from 1982. What happened?

Haven't heard a thing since .... I may have to break down and get the R2 release.

There's only a region 2 version available now.

I got the R2 France version (it was cheaper then):

I believe the UK release is full screen.

The French release is OAR and does not have forced subtitles.
