Fate of Godfather boxset when remastered individuals discs become available???

Will the boxset released in 2001 (so-so picture quality) be re-released too? Will it be discontinued and thus OOP. What about the bonus disc of extras? Anybody know?

No idea, but I do know one thing. I will NOT be double dipping on this one.

One great Godfather box set is enough for me.

Agreed. I'm satisfied with the picture and sound on the boxset. Although it is far from perfect, I don't see a need to double-dip on this one.

I didn't buy the boxed set in the first place so I'll definitely be getting the remastered discs (minus part III).

No double dip for me either. I like the set I bought in 2001 just fine.

I look forward to seeing how much better the remastered versions will look. I see myself selling my boxset on Ebay (or elsewhere) and just buying parts I & II remastered.

If I wanna see a good print of GODFATHER I'll watch it on cable with the extra scenes not on the boxset instead of buying it again.

I'll have to decide when it comes out. I have watched The first Godfather 3 times on the current set and it really hasn't bothered me too much though I can see some defects. I really don't want to replace the current set I have. If anything I may rent the new version just to see how it looks and keep the current set.

Part I is coming in May. The other two movies are due later in the year.

Considering it's a 3 hour and 20 minute movie, not really a pain. No different than the extended LOTR movies (if you are a fan).

Paramount did squeeze Apoc. Now Redux on one side and it looks quite good. Maybe they will attempt this will Godfather II and just leave off the commentaries for extra bits.

GF1 on my NEC LT150 was truly unwatchable. Here's hoping for a better transfer!

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the Laziest Man on the Planet!

I sold my boxset when I heard of these. The improvement of the transfers may be minor, but at least I was able to clear my shelf of the unmitigated foulness of Godfather III for once and for all!

Hehe, everyone turned this into a "will you be buying the remastered Godfather movies" thread. As far as i know, there hasnt been much information on the re-release of the movies.

I've been seriously considering doing this myself as surely the Lowry versions will look better. How much were you able to get for it and where did you sell it? I'm thinking of throwing mine on Ebay.

A recent NYT article discussed it. The May date comes from Digital Bits (Rumor Mill I believe).

Getting rid of a lot of the noise (especially mosquito noise, print damage, and graininess) dramatically improves compression without compromising quality.

I hope they do a real restoration job on the film and not just do digital restoration. The unfortunate trend these days is to do digital-only restoration and let the elements rot. Studio management has no respect for their past.

I still have the GF1 & 2 (no GF3 in MY home, thanks) on laser. I just never got around to the boxed set. I'll wait and see what the deal is with these. I don't watch extras a great deal (usually once per movie, and that's about it) so if these new discs look to be definitive in regards to audio/video quality of the films themselves, then I'll pick up 1 & 2 and gladly skip 3 and the bonus stuff on the box.

Well, it isn't happening yet, as Lowry will just be doing another of their digital creations.

Indeed, what did he do in the days of VHS when all 3 movies each were on 2 tapes? Think of it, not only did you have to watch both cassettes, but you had to rewind them both. Be happy you only have to swap discs for one movie and don't have to rewind any of them!

I boycotted the boxed set because I didn't appreciate being forced to waste good money on GODFATHER III. Now I'm glad I waited. I'll pick up the first two when they are reissued.
