The CC is the UNCUT version with more gore! It has a good commentary and some other stuff like storyboards and essays or something. I liked it alot more than the regular MGM version.

I wish they would do Robocop 2 again. I had it at one time, lost it now I cannot get it at a reasonable cost. Bring on Robo2 SE!

The CC contains an interactive essay on the making of the film that is EXCELLENT.

I own both and CC is way better in all aspects. Although it's non-anamorphic the picture quality is pretty good, and is in Verhoeven's preferred aspect ratio of 1.66:1. Also the DD 2.0 sound gets the job done, and in my opinion sounds alot better than the DD 5.1 from the MGM release. The extras of the CC are far superior than the MGMs. You get storyboards, essays, and a fantastic audio commentary from Paul Verhoeven and co. Last but not least, as earlier mentioned, it contains the director's uncut version of the film. Really adds more brutality and is the way the film should be watched.

Class, I'm aware of that site. It does not compare the CC to MGM versions.

The R4 Robocop has the cut and uncut version and the special features are better by far than the CC.

True but CC has a better AR.

Wish there'd be a R1 SE with the CC AR and R2/4 special features.

region 3 has the same extras as the other 2

_ commentary from director, writer, and producer
_making of flesh and Steel
_2 original featurette's
_Storyboard comparison
_ deleted scenes _ 4 as i remember
_ trailers to all the films
_Tv spot, and photo gallery

it only contains the longer unrated director's cut- not the theatrical cut..

but r2 and r4 are supposed to only have the uncut version, via some bad seamless branching from what i've heard, and i also have read a few posts, that picture looks saturated.

region3 picture is great, and it's ntsc anamorphic..

the only downside like the r2 and r4 is that they're 1:85:1 ratio, unlike criterion's 1:66:1 which has the directors intended ration

Well, we could always start a list here, or in the 'DVD Reviews and Recommendations' forum.

I take it that this is it: http://koreandvds.com/dvddetail.html?id=13493

For some reason Koreandvds.com has two SEs listed on their site (one for $20 and the other for $8).

Yeah right...too easy....

It's like trying to get all the studios to decide on 1 region rather than 8.

Robocop is around $12 shipped by itself (airmail).

MGM has been way too slow to release SE's and the director's cut. Kind of reminds me of Warner now I think about it.

I have seen screen shot comparsions between the R1 MGM and Criterion release. The color timing was different, as well as the brightness levels. I will say the MGM did look better. But, can anyone verify if one or the other was an approved transfer? (Or, is this another "Silence of the Lambs" case where both were approved, yet looked different? Or, was this a case of "Halloween" with the Divimax screw-up?)

Criterion's transfer was approved by Paul Verhoeven. However (as with Silence of the Lambs), it was probably the laserdisc master that was approved. I believe the improvements in digital transfers in the intervening years may account for the differences in color fidelity, brightness, etc. That is, while Verhoeven and Fujimoto may have approved those LD masters (and the way they translated onto the screen via an analog format), they may find that even more accurate transfers are now possible (hence the competing approved SOTLs).
