More MST3K on its way in March.

According to http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=982

There is more MST3K on its way in March from Rhino. No details yet, but I would bet money on 4 more Sci-Fi episodes. I'm just hoping for Agent for H.A.R.M. and Prince of Space.

great news. thanks for the update.

Grabastic 01-17-04 01:45 AM

it'd be great if they could release MST3K on a season-by-season basis. i know there are issues with acquiring rights to the various movies they make fun of and whatnot. still, i would love to see some of the first episodes with Joel that haven't been put on DVD and are not shown anywhere.

I don't know if there will ever be any more Comedy Central episodes on DVD, but check out http://dapcentral.org/

Read through the FAQ there and if you have a broadband connection you can find out how to download almost all the episodes not on DVD. I did it a few years back and now have all the missing eps available on VCD to go with my Rhino DVDs. It takes time to do, but its worth it if you are a fan. What they are doing has even been approved of by people like Joel Hodgsen and Mike Nelson.

Episodes encodes of high quality are even being released in DVD format now and I'm going to start getting those once I get a DVD burner.

Great news about the new set!

Which ones? I'd love to upgrade my old VHS copies, but I couldn't locate any shows on DAP that I thought would be equal. Are you refering to the 5 star quality ratings? The source for all of the one's I've checked out are EP VHS tapes. (Gamera, Gamera Vs. Gaos etc.)

Never mind. I dug a little deeper, and found the DVD project here:

I went to that site a few times and read through the FAQ. I am probably more confused now than before. I really don't want to fart around installing any software on my pc. What I would just like to do is find someone that is willing to sell me what I'd like. Is that illegal?

Tarnower 01-17-04 08:20 AM

According to Satellite News, both Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy will provide commentary on this set.

My personal fave from Sci-Fi era (and one that no one seems to ever talk about) is "Horrors of Spider Island." I would love it if that were part of this set. At least they won't be able to put that God-awful "Hamlet" on it, since it wasted space on the November set. I would also have to say that I was kinda disappointed in the November set. I thought "Space Mutiny" was no where near as funny as everyone was making it out to be. Overrated IMHO. "Hamlet" was, as mentioned, dreck. "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" was pretty amusing, but that cheap-looking video is so hard to look at. I thought best of the bunch was "Girl in Gold Boots." That had some real gems: Boy and girl driving in convertible. Boy pulls over to side of road, gets out and wanders off. When he returns, girl's response is: "I'm so glad you're back. I was locked in."

Oops! I goofed with above-post. I didn't mean to include text in the quote box. Sorry.

I wish they would just do these season by season... I liked Joel much better than I did Mike.

Awesome news and thanks for the post ;)

It would be super if they could put:

Parts: A Clonus Horror
Riding with Death
and
Soultaker
on one of these future sets (I prefer Mike to Joel).

btribble 01-17-04 12:07 PM

Are they REALLY going to have commentary for this? Am I the only one that sees the irony?

Thunderball 01-17-04 12:13 PM

I can't wait. I love MST3K. It's the only TV show I'll buy on DVD.

Edit : And the Family Guy

PatrickMcCart 01-17-04 01:33 PM

I don't think they mean commentary for the episodes, but commentary for one of the special features. I'm willing to guess that Rhino is putting the "Scrapbook" tape on the set.

I'm probably misunderstanding what you meant, but what is the point of having a PC if you never install software on it?

All you have to install is edonkey, get the server from IRC (which you can do through Internet Explorer), and start downloading files. Its a little hard at first if you are not use to file sharing, but honestly isn't that big of a deal.

BTW, check the site. I think some people there do disc trading.

milo bloom 01-17-04 04:19 PM

I am seriously behind on these discs, I started out with the OOP movie, then quickly got six of the single discs then quit. I was hoping to grab some for the holidays but I used my Border's gift card on the Complete Far Side.

You know, with Toho allowing three Godzilla movies to be released in R1 with Japanese soundtracks, do you think they'll lighten up and allow the MST3K episodes?

My understanding of things is the problem is with Sandy Frank and not Toho. They used the Sandy Frank syndicated versions of the movies and that is the company that refuses to give them another license to show the episodes. They used the TV syndicated versions of many movies which is why rights are an issue even with films in public domain.

Since many of the jokes are based on these versions, its not as simple as substituting a different version of the film.

cultshock 01-17-04 09:04 PM

Probably why we won't get the Gamera episodes either, because they used the Sandy Frank versions of those as well. Too bad, because they are great.

Yep, it includes Godzilla, Gamera, Fugitive Alien, and one of my favorite episodes Time of the Apes.

Ninja Gaiden 01-17-04 11:26 PM

go to dap central and check out the digital archive project for MST3K. From reading that section it looks like they have a distribution system. If you e-mail them they send you info on a distribution center. They burn one episode per dvd. You have to send 2 dvd's for every one you want returned. It looks like you can get virtually every episode you want. I think I will give this a shot with 1 or 2 eps and if it works out I'll pick out my top ten episodes. Time of the Apes and Santa vs Martians here I come!

Pac-Rat 01-18-04 12:48 AM

Seeing as how I thought there was little to NO hope for more DVDs, thtis is excellent news!

"We have more information about Volume 5 of Rhino Home Video‚s "Mystery Science
Theater 3000 Collection" series. The release date is March 9th. It will feature
episodes 821- TIME CHASERS, 908- THE TOUCH OF SATAN, 1003- MERLIN'S SHOP OF
MYSTICAL WONDERS and 1006- BOGGY CREEK II.

Special features on the set will include introductions by Mike Nelson (similar
to those in last set, but Mike tells us they will be somewhat longer),
full-length interviews with Mike & Kevin Murphy, and the original trailer for
"The Touch Of Satan."

Before you ask: Based on our conversations with our source at Rhino we don‚t
think the contents of this list should be read as an indication that it‚s only
Sci-Fi Channel episodes from this point on. Our source asked us which episodes
fans would like to see next, and we referred him to the poll we conducted a
couple of years ago, the result of which are here:
http://www.mst3kinfo.com/dvd.html

As soon as we know more about what‚s next from Rhino, you‚ll know too.

Sampo"

Well, there you have it...

Any word whether "MST3K: The Movie" will ever be released on DVD in anamorphic format?

Only when Universal can put a forced trailer in front of it.

Seriously, maybe never. Most of the companies involved are now out of business.
