Really??!!!....i kind of think many other 'candidates' besides this one would come into the equation....i'll suggest Milestones 'Phantom Of The Opera UE' for a start.

Anyway...don't want to sideatrack the thread but wanted to respond to what i thought was a fairly bold statement on your part.

I think it's an alright cover. There have been worse recently (Revolutions comes to mind), but there have also been better.

Anyway, I haven't yet decided what I'm going to purchase as far as the Kill Bill DVD's go.

These ring true and people should think back to this cover/thread the next time one of the majors tries to hawk story by stars (specifically when Universal releases a Focus film). Floating heads and quotes are a hell of a lot more annoying than an actual poster that features the star of a movie with a plot like this looking less than EW-cover ready.

Hate the cover. But then again I think Uma is not at all attractive.

In all honesty, there are many examples of recent keyart that I would place above the Kill Bill Keyart. Most of them older films which utilize the original, or keep the spirit of the original keyart.

Your example is a good one, RichDB10. I love the cover of the "Phantom Of The Opera UE".

However, I can't think of a recent release, of a recent film that actually improved upon the theatrical one-sheet like Kill Bill Vol. 1 does.

That said, if I had free reign on Kill Bill, I would have gone with a simplified version of the teaser. Or perhaps gone with a painted cover like we did for the Rolling Thunder theatrical release of "Mighty Peking Man," or "Switchblade Sisters."

I Like the Cover art and think it will stand out very well on the shelves but I'm still gonna be waiting for the boxset to be released.

Just having Uma Thurman on the cover is good enough for me.

I think much of the negative feedback is more a reaction to the O.P. "overselling" this cover than anything else.

Regardless of cover, I will be buying it.

The cover art is gross.

I won't be buying this release anyway. I'm waiting for the boxset or second release, whichever QT plans on doing. This first release is going to be too bare-bones for me to want it. And I won't want to double dip - so I'll just wait.

Should the cover read "Half of the 4th film by Quentin Tarantino"?

By-the way, this is actually based upon the German one-sheet.
The 2nd version of the Japanese chirashi (movie flyer) also used that pic of Uma. It looks better than the DVD cover art though, because she is standing directly in front of the Kill Bill logo, reducing the "yellow on yellow" effect that people here don't like and I think it ends up looking pretty good. Using that version of the art for the DVD might confuse some poor souls who wouldn't be able to clearly read the title though.
