Classic Jonny Quest in the works! Finally!!!

I didn't see this posted anywhere else, so I thought I'd post it. According to the Rumor Mill at www.thedigitalbits.com, WB is working on both The Flintstones, Jetsons and Classic Jonny Quest for DVD release in the next 1-2 years. Here's the details from the Bits:

"here in The Rumor Mill, we told you that Warner Bros. was finally going to get more serious about releasing their animated product on DVD, particularly TV series animation from their new and classic lines. Well, we've been hearing from some very good sources recently, who tell us that the folks at WB are hard at work on The Flintstones: Season One, The Jetsons: Season One and Johnny Quest: The Complete Series! That last title has us particularly excited here at The Bits. No release timetable has been set other than probably late 2004 or early 2005. Other full season animated titles are planned, we're told, including the recent Batman: The Animated Series and more. We'll post additional details when we have them."

Excellent news!!!

Yes! So long as its the classic, original series (and not the lame 90s version), I'm all over it. Thanks for the info!

Well, it is to be hoped that this is true. Johnny Quest is a classic cartoon series which is unique for its adult appeal at the time.

YES! Child endangerment at its best! Just 26 episodes, but that's some great stuff.
It still surprises me when I'm reminded that Hanna-Barbera is part of Warner Bros. now.

Don't forget animal endangerment. Poor Bandit was always getting into trouble.

It'd be a kick if they got Tim Matheson (the voice of Jonny) to participate in any of the DVD materials! I always liked its stylized look.

Why does it seem my wife and I are the only ones that liked the last incarnation of this series?

Jonny Quest is a must have Hanna-Barbera series as well as The Flintstones, Jetsons and the old Fantastic Four.

Awesome news! I've always loved Johnny Quest. Think about it -- how many TV cartoons have people really getting killed on a regular basis? Not even on G.I. Joe, with 1000 guns firnig all at once.

Yeah, they did look similar... of course Race didn't have that mouth thingy going. That kinda freaked me out when I was a kid.

But I can't believe it was only 26 episodes? I guess when you're a kid, you don't pay attention to details... you just watched and had a blast. Great news!

JONNY QUEST COMING MAY 12TH (according
to data on www.classicjq.com) :tu: ..........

>> "Fellow JQ fan Chris Carney wrote...
I read this morning on Coming Attractions (http://members.cox.net/comingattractions/) that a release date of May 12th has been set for the complete 1st season on DVD. This is my only source of information for this news, so a second source may be in order before you post this news on your Quest site, but it's worth looking into.

The data on the above-mentioned web site is posted below:
---------------------------------------
JONNY QUEST SEASON ONE DVD SET - Coming in May!
The JONNY QUEST SEASON ONE DVD Set is coming this May from Warner Home Video!

Follow young, intrepid adventurer Jonny Quest, his scientist father Dr. Benton Quest, bodyguard Race Bannon, boyhood companion Hadji, and pup Bandit, in the globe-trotting, harrowing exploits featured in this DVD set collecting all 26 Season 1 episodes of Hanna/Barbera's 1964-65 animated classic!

The March PREVIEWS solicitation indicates that this DVD set is scheduled to ship in April 2004. The retailer ordering data lists May 12th as the ship date."
<<
------------------------------------------------

We might want to take the May 12th date with a grain of salt (since it's a Wednesday, not the usual Tuesday).

If the May 2004 release date *does* come to fruition, it'll be a pleasant (early) surprise for this release, which was only a mild rumor a very short time ago (just a month ago, on January 13th). I was figuring on a 4th Quarter JQ DVD release. Nice going Warners! (If true. )

Just hope a May release doesn't mean a quick out-the-door-as-fast-as-possible, poor-PQ product.

How many seasons/episodes are there? I think it was only two seasons, but I'm not sure...

The "Classic" "original" JQ (the only good one ) was just the one season (1964-1965; ABC-TV; started on Fridays nights @ 7:30 PM ET). 26 episodes.

Official DVD release date for "Classic Jonny Quest" is May 11th.

Super-sweet!

Anyone remember that Harvey Birdman episode where Race Bannon and Dr. Quest were battling for custody of Jonny?

The one that will always haunt me is the invisible energy monster episode, where they had to drop paint on it to see it. I was just a kid when I saw that, and it scared the CRAP out of me!

The 13 episodes produced in 1986 in an attempt to revive the series are considered to be Season 2 for some reason.
