V: The Series and Misfits of Science DVD?
 

Anyone know if these will ever be on DVD? I have the mini-series movies of V (Original and Final Battle), but there was also a short series that I would love to see again.

Also, there was this wacky tv show "Misfits of Science", I am sure some of you's know it..the guy who played the Predator who I think died is in it, Kevin Hall..back in the 80's..I would kill to see this again as well..not to mention The Powers of Mathew Star, but don't get me started..

So anyone know anything or any medium they are on? Thanks in advance.

I think the V flicks on DVD were a success for WB, so once V:tNG gets made [if ever], perhaps they'll put out the TV series.

However, thanks to Friends, I could care less about MOS.

I'd love to see both. I agree that V is more likely to come out as a tie-in to the upcoming 3rd miniseries (though I expect the "weekly series" was short enough to technically be called a "mini-series"! :lol: )

Misfits of Science = Universal = not bloody likely to come out on DVD.

I'd settle for the SciFi channel showing MoS again. That was a pretty funny show.

Actually, they've been available on VHS tape for awhile. In America (NTSC), they're only available from Columbia House in their "TV Greats" subscription series. I suspect they're the average Columbia price of $15.99 or so per volume.

In Europe, they were originally released in the early '90s by WB and were successful enough to warrant a re-release in 1997. They are still in-print and sell as a bargain title in the UK now (about £5.99 per tape).

The complete V series was released on laserdisc in Japan.

And a VHS tape with about 3 episodes of Misfits came out years ago:

How big a geek am I? I own the Japanese laserdisc box set.

Since the new mini-series will completely ignore the TV show it's unlikely that the series will be released as a tie-in to it.

How would they promote it?

"See everthing that hasn't happened after 'The Final Battle'!"

If we do get that new miniseries, you can virtually guarantee that Warner will release the TV show set. $$$$ talks, and you don't get better crosspromotion than that.

(Kinda like Universal with their Battlestar set.)


I'm sure that the Warner marketing department won't concern themselves too much about where the storyline fits within the V canon. It's likely that the new mini will also ignore the events of The Final Battle (which Johnson disowns). It's also likely that the show will take place so far into the future that the question of what did/didn't happen before will be moot.

Even if they do concern themselves with where it fits in, it shouldn't be too much of impediment. After all, they did manage to figure out a way to "de-finalize" the solution in The Final Battle (in a halfway plausible way) in order to enable The Series and the dozen-or-so novels. (That reminds me...I know those novels are in my parents' basement somewhere....)

I'm just hoping Warner releases the series in the original TV ratio, and doesn't tilt and scan or crop them for fake widescreen like they apparently are with the KUNG FU shows.

...and like they did with the two mini-series discs. Johnson can say what he likes, but the two minis were shot primarily for American TV, not theatrical distribution. That was a secondary market, such as the repackaging of all the old ITC TV shows into "movies".

And, if Johnson disowned the second mini, then why was it also presented in "widescreen?"

The first one didn't bother me, as it seemed not to suffer too much with the cropping. I can believe Johnson that he shot it with this possibility in mind.

The second mini-series, though, was shown on TV all over the world in 4X3 and should not have been cropped. It seemed far more cramped in cropped form.

Of course the cropped DVDs of the mini-series have already been debated to death. People on either side of the issue aren't going to change their minds now.

But for the TV series, 4X3 is clearly the way to go.

DON'T SCREW IT UP, WARNER! Let those folks who want their screens filled do it with the zoom button on their remote, no need to force it on those of us who care about OAR.

Yeah, put me in the camp as someone who prefers his V in the original 4x3 ratio. The 'widescreen' cropping was questionable enough on the first mini. But it seems waaaay wrong on the 2nd.

i'd rather see MANIMAL, street hawk, or airwolf. now those were good shows.

Another good one was auto-man.

SciFi was showing reruns 4 or 5 years ago.

Wish I taped them!
