Best DVD menu ever?

I gotta say me and my buddies have been lovin' the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: Criterion DVD menu. One of a kind and definitely my favorite.

Any others?

Best DVD Menu:

Any static (no animation) menu that appears immediately when you insert the DVD, and is already highlighted on the play option. One key press to start the movie.

Everything else, IMO, is crap.

The best menus are ones that only come on when you hit the Menu button- otherwise start the damn movie!!

I don't agree that everything else is crap, but this is definitely the ideal.

My least favourite menus are 24 season 1 (UK release - dunno if the R1s had different menus). The main menu of each disc had video clips from the episodes on that disc, with audio... which meant that if I'd stayed on the menu too long, I'd have been spoiled. So, so dumb. Thankfully, season 2 has much plainer menus.

In terms of plain style, I think the menus from the R2 version of DELICATESSEN are really creative. I do prefer simple, practical menus though.

Absolutely positively.....Betty Blue (R4-Australia)

This has got to be one of the most beautiful dvd menus I have ever seen. The background music, the wave-like colors switching from day to night and beach house on the back.......gorgeous!!!

I was surprised that was on the menu. But I don't mind.-smile- Also Fox DVD menus are pretty cool, Die Hard series, From Hell, etc.

The best DVD menus ever are the ones on the "An Evening With Kevin Smith" DVD set.

alex4bball 12-31-03 05:31 AM

I really liked what they did with the Identity menu.

cruzness 12-31-03 09:03 AM

SW Episode 1 and 2
I thought it was cool to have a different menu whenever you popped in the disc.
Even though Boat trip unrated is my favorite :eyebrow:

Definitely. I hate having to watch 2 or 3 minutes of pointless crap(Disney, anyone?)before I can even get to the menu options.

I'm not saying the Fassbinder BRD DVDs have the best menus - just that it has elements I like.

Options are all on the main menu including options for specific special features.

Reasonable length music intro before repeating.

Images that do not give plot points from the film away yet still in keeping with the mood of the films.

jayson1017 12-31-03 11:33 AM

The Devil and Daniel Webster has a kool menu...

smirnoff 12-31-03 11:52 AM

I Would have to agree with the above, I've had movies that spoil themselves cause they show so much in the dvd intro thing. I want my dvds to go straight to a plain black and white no music option screen, with cursur allready on play. Though if I can't have that I would like it like LOTR where its just a book opening, no faces, no clips, yet still nice.
