My psychiatrist said I've made a major breakthrough in therapy and looking at the total amout of money I spent this year would probably lead me right back into depression, so I'm going to refrain...

But it's definatly in the thousands... S//t!!! Where's my prozac???

Total, NOT including any shipping costs: $5,094
Total retail price: $7,946 (saved average of 36%)

That does not include any television or music, which I'd estimate at about $2,000 additional.

Well, it was a lot. So was the year before. But 2004 should really be less, since the previous two years, in addition to buying lots of movies and TV shows, I was also buying all the season box sets of The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Since I will NOT be buying Voyager box sets (bleech!!), 2004 should be about $700 cheaper.

Y'know what I'd love though? To be able to buy the time to watch all I bought in 2003. I stress out sometimes about not being able to see them. It's going to take me more than a year to catch up.

I'm not sure of the breakdown per year, but I have spent $11,230 total on 620 discs (by DVD Profiler's count...) That averages to ~$18.26 per disc (including box sets.) I have saved something like 43% off of retail.

The following figures are taken from the average disc price, and don't take into account the higher-priced box sets and television seasons.
2000 - 039 discs - $0712.34 - 02 box sets
2001 - 070 discs - $1278.20 - 04 box sets
2002 - 261 discs - $4765.86 - 31 box sets
2003 - 250 discs - $4565.00 - 33 box sets

by my accounting on profiler just a hair under $1,000 - that's less than $100 a month so I can't be too ashamed of that....covers 107 additions to the collection for an average under $10 - thanks Columbia House and my family who knows what I like for gifts

Actually over the last couple of months DVDTalk has been my cure, Ive gotten so darn tired of the OAR clowns and outrageous prices some stores have, that it has certainly cut down on my spending.

I'd guess $150-200.

My buyings calmes way down. Got most of the catalog titles I wanted (much more of a casual movie fan than most here) and not as many theatrical releases I've deemed worthy of buying the past few years. Couple that with the end of the crazy online deals a couple years ago, and I only buy 10-20 a year anymore.

I purchased 304 DVD's in 2003 which cost, including tax, $5198.59. That is perfectly acceptable within my budget.

for me...$1000 on DVD...but donated $6000 for the year 2003. As for my CD collection..probably well over $30,000 within 8 years. I have cut down on CDs now...I'm moving toward DVD going foward.

Using Quicken and DVDTracker's Custom Reports:

1999....171 titles......$878.21...5.14/disc
2000....119 titles......$553.73...4.65/disc
2001....131 titles....$1,379.51....10.53/disc
2002....140 titles....$1,911.32....13.65/disc
2003....178 titles....$1,237.51....6.95/disc

I sold several titles in 2003 purchased in previous years, which is why 2003 is suddenly so much lower, I think.

Obviously, the deals started getting thinner around 2001, though I never did the click for gcs stuff that was pretty popular around then.

This year I started putting myself on a budget of $100/month, so I'm glad to see I pretty much kept to that. I expect next year to be similar, though I'll probably be getting a lot of the older titles on my want list, as I don't think there'll be as many new releases that I'll want.
