Anyway to remove "permant" pen marker from dvds.....

Bought a few used dvds at local video/rental store and they write the name of the store on the dvd (the actual disc) with a marker....any way of getting rid of it? Suggestions?

Try using a pencil eraser. It worked on old Nintendo64 Games at least.

Try isopropyl alcohol ONLY on the ink itself (it will remove everything else as well). I suggest a Q-Tip, or magic spell.

How about Goof-Off? Never tried it on a DVD or CD, but works wonders on kitchen tables and certain types of plastic.

I have used WD-40 pretty successfully. It might take a little longer than some harsher products, but it is less likely to cause damage.

Urine, preferably a pregnant woman’s urine (for some reason it works better).

Instead of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) try acetone (nail polish remover) instead diluted to half strength with water. My Hollywood Video used to deface all their DVD's by writing a big ass HWV across their discs until enough people complained. Dip a Q-Tip in the solution and when done carefully it will take off the permanent marker ink but not the art

Urine?!? Nothing like having a DVD collection that smells like a urinal.

The marker is cirtus-based and has a neutral pH.
I tried that on one of those 24: Season 2 preview discs, and it worked like a charm. Completely removed Sharpie permanent marker and left no residue or smell. The disc art looks as good as new. I would order a couple of those if I were you.

I have used acetone in the past and it's worked fine. Dilute it a bit, and dab lightly. If you focus on one part, it'll weaken the actual picture on the disc, and you don't want to do that.

Another one that works is Cologne or perfume. Use a good one, or your Dvd will smell.

I work as a Chemist and Acetone works fine...

Put some on a cotton swab and dab it on the section you want to clean off then try a lint free wipe to dry it (all tho Acetone drys very quickly).

What ever you do....DONT use Acetone on Plastic like the DVD Covers or the inside as Acetone destroys & discolors plastic.

goo gone , it is designed to remove stickers, but removes marker, without removing the artwork on the disc. It sells at walmart

Disclaimer: I have seen someone else do this and it worked, but haven't tried it myself, so no guarantees. You might want to test it on a blank CD or something.

Get one of those dry eraser markers (like permanent markers but designed to write on a special surface, the markings then dry and can be erased) and write on top of the permanent marker. The dry eraser marker supposedly dissolves the permanent marker, then dries, and then everything can be wiped off.

Pregnant womens urine contains high level of HCG. Is that the reason or are you just being funny. Reason being i have some HCG and will reconstitute it if it removes marker marks!!!

I have never tried that... but I would say that has an excellent chance of working. I know that is how you get permanent marker off a dry-erase board. I may try that on a cdr or something just as an experiment.

Dry erasure markers are not the same as permanent markers. The ink dries to almost a dust win dry erasure markers. Try taking a Sharpie Permenant and writing on a dry marker board. I promise it will not wipe cleans with anything short of Pee!!!LOL!
