I agree - Jan/Feb are going to kill me wallet, especially after all of the cash outlay for Nov/Dec releases and bargains. What I'll be going after:

JANUARY
Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde double feature
My Darling Clementine
Aliens SE
Rules of the Game
Ikiru
Barney Miller, season 1

FEBRUARY
Ed Wood
Blow Up
Persona
Gaslight
Mutiny on the Bounty
Goodbye Mr. Chips
Grand Hotel
Mrs. Miniver
The Great Ziegfeld

And later in the year of course, Schindler's List, Star Wars box, King Kong, L'Age D'Or, Grapes of Wrath, Freaks, The Return of the Living Dead 2, and probably other rumored stuff like If..., Wild at Heart, White Heat, Laura, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, etc.

Also, it's going to be a good year for TV boxsets: besides the aformentioned Barney Miller, also looking forward to Kung Fu, Star Trek TOS, Seinfeld, SCTV, Kids in the Hall, and probably Taxi and Northern Exposure (as rumor has it). Plus all of the next seasons for the series I'm already collecting: All in the Family, X-Files, The King of Queens, The Simpsons.

Hopefully, this will be the year I make the 90% mark of my wish list...

I think DVD2003 is the best year so far. There are few really great releases coming in DVD2004, but I would not say it is going to be the best year ever.

Schindler's List, LOTR:ROTK EE and Star Wars box set (maybe My Darling Clementine) are the only earth moving releases I know of or really care about.

I think most of the movies most of us wanted on DVD, except Star Wars, are already out.

What we really need are more TV releases!!

->'The Simpsons' season releases need to be sped up!

->'GILLIGAN'S ISLAND' First Season is finally hitting DVD in February, let's hope that the other seasons quickly follow!

->The first seasons of the 'FLINSTONES' and 'JETSONS' are coming to DVD!

->I would expect more 'Looney Tunes Golden Collection' type compilations because the first one sold so well.

->We need more unedited classic animation!
I would expect classic 'POPEYE' toons to be released on DVD because it is the franchise's anniversary and they are producing new Popeye cartoons and such.

->Nickelodeon needs to release their classic shows on DVD 'PETE & PETE' 'SALUTE YOUR SHORTS' & 'HEY DUDE!'

->We need uncensored toons and wartime tunes please

->Give me 'HAPPY DAYS' season releases!!

->Let's see some 80s sitcoms on DVD please like 'SMALL WONDER' 'CHARLES in CHARGE' 'FAMILY TIES' 'THE COSBY SHOW' 'ALF' etc.

->We need 'WONDER YEARS' on DVD

->'KNIGHT RIDER' on DVD please!!!

->Warner MUST release Batman animation seasons, although I think they are holding out on this to promote the 5th Batman film.

->Warner MUST release Animaniacs season sets!

->FUTURAMA Vol 3 is coming in March!

->I would expect the 3rd seasons of 'ALIAS' and '24' on DVD sometime around September.

->Let's not forget the WALT DISNEY TREASURES wave III coming in May!

Wouldn't the year of DVD be the one when no one makes VHS anymore?

Given that Pirates of the Caribbean came out widescreen-only, maybe 2004 could be the year of OAR . . .

Still, given Columbia Tri-Stars determination to release half their catalog titles Pan and Scan and Universal's love for two releases . . . I doubt it.

I concur. I would wait for the end of the year before comparing.

It's also about which films come out next year in theaters and makes it to dvd before the year end. then the following year and so forth. it's a cycle that will never end that the next year will have just as many big names as the one previous.

Star Wars is old hat. Lord of the Ring can get bent. There are only two*TRUE* releases of 2004 worthy of getting worked up over:

Gilligans Island S1 and The A-Team S1

Anything else is just a pretender wanna-be DVD.

Nay, I say! I've already got both versions of Star Wars on LD so any future releases, although nice to have, are not a vital part of my video collection. And frankly I'd take the worst episode of the A-Team - even one of the really crappy season 5 episodes where the A-Team was working for Robert Vaughn - over 500 Lord of the Rings any day of the week.

So yeah - I'm deadly serious.

Really...at this time last year, we'd have all been like "2002 was the best year for DVDs EVER! We got the Godfather and blah blah blah" and we had no clue such wonderful titles like Dragonslayer and Indy and a ton of other stuff would be coming...

It's all wait and see. It's a retrospect game, not foresight.

Hey, speak of the devil, let's not forget the remastered release of The Godfather due next year, although some of us aren't too happy about that. Also:

-the best of the "Mr. Show" releases (Season 4), hopefully
-the individual Alien
-the new Time Bandits release
-the SP: BLU SE
-The Matrix Rev... oh never mind that one.
-The Passion of Christ
-The Last Samuri
-Spider-Man 2
-Master and Commander
-Kill Bill, Vol. 2 (in case Vol. I was already mentioned)

I'm looking forward to Goodfellas, but I will not be surprised at all if it doesn't come out next year.

Don't forget about The Shield: Season 2 (Jan 2), Godfather 1 (re-release - spring?), and hopefully Shawashank Redemption: SE late in the year.

It wasn't. When asked in the last HTF Chat, Warner didn't seem to want to even give an approximation date/time release.

However, I would *hope* 2004 is finally the year for Goodfellas SE. I just don't see the point for them to wait even longer.

For myself, here are some I am hoping for:

Giligan's Island
Original Star Trek TV series (if the price is right!)
Spider-Man Superbit
Ed Wood
Return of the King: EE
Goodfellas: SE
Batman: SE (unlikely until 2005)
Matrix: SE
Star Trek 6 SE
Godfather I & II remasters
Star Wars --- depends on what they are like
Blade Runner: SE (unlikely)
Total Recall - UE (yes, Artisan said this is eventually coming!)
True Lies: SE
Predator: SE (only if there is a new transfer)
Crimson Tide: SE (no rumors)
