Help me with gift list: Which DVD's are you asking for this year?
This seems an appropriate forum for this question.
I have not bought many dvd's lately, so anything new is good. I have myself, my wife, and a 1 year old daughter. I like to collect DVD's with extras, like deleted scenes, and outtakes. My wife likes quality movies. Oh, and she's Vietnamese. And my daughter likes movies she can chew on the box. I heard her mention a movie with Harvey Keitel called Three Seasons, it's a vietnamese movie, but I can't find it anywhere. I figure maybe Baby Einstein series for the little one. And I have Godfather Collection. But, I want to give my family members more choice when buying. So maybe you can give me some ideas, either based on my info, or from your own wish list. What are you asking for this holiday season? Thanks for any input... DougB |
For you: Alien Quadrilogy
For daughter: Finding Nemo For wife: Rambo: First Blood Part II (just kidding...just kidding!) |
I'm looking for the James Bond Collection vol 1.
Since I know my wife's email addy and guessed her password at ddd I know I'm getting it! Lo's of good extras too it looks like. If you don't have the Pulp Fiction SE go for that. Great extras on it, great audio, video and story. My wife really isn't into DVDs, but if yours likes quality movies I'd get her the Director's Cut of Amadeus. I don't go in for that kind of stuff but am I glad I got it. Not my favorite movie ever (but on my top 10) but I think it's possibly the best movie I've ever seen (no, that doesn't mean it has to be my favorite). Unbelieveable story, acting, music. Damn fine choice. Great extras for you too. Your daughter is too young for me to remember what they like. I'd guess just get her a DVD of whatever she watches on TV. Good luck. |
For you and your daughter: Looney Tunes: The Golden Collection. Awesome classic cartoons, and a ton of great extras. I'm sure your wife would enjoy it too!

I never really "ask" for anything for X-mas. Unless you're a child that seems really selfish & silly to me.
But I have dropped the hint to the girlfriend that I can't afford the Alien Quadrilogy right now, & that I've been holding off buying Shogun (which would probably be a great set for you & your wife to watch together over a few nights) b/c I hate watching full-screen anything despite my love of the TV show. So those are the only DVDs I hinted at waiting till X-mas for. I'd also suggest the recent Pirates of the Caribbean DVD. Loaded with extras, 19 deleted scenes, full cast commentaries & fun for the whole family. Plus there is a slip sleeve for your daughter to chew on without actually ruin the DVD case:) |

Originally posted by Rat Faced Killa I basically know what im getting dvd wise: R2 Roman Polanski Box R3 Hana-Bi disc Day of Anger Criterion Hitchcock Box Back to the question at hand...i'd certainly recommend Looney Tunes Golden Collection for yourself and family....maybe Finding Nemo would appeal to your daughter (but once again the whole family really)..for yourself there is enough quality extras in the Black Hawk Down Deluxe Edition to keep you going for a while....also Warners Brothers excellent Casablanca SE will keep you busy trawling through the extras and as it is presented almost immaculately will certainly keep the wife happy. For myself.....no DVD's!!!..i buy them all year round so the last thing i want for Xmas is a shiny silver disc.....anything made of chocolate or containing alcohol is by far and away a better substitute this time of year :) |
Here's my Xmas wishlist this year...most of it is either TV sets I just haven't been able to afford lately or some older catalogue titles I've been meaning to pick up.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 5 Family Guy Vol. 2 Firefly – Complete Series South Park Season 3 The West Wing Season 1 The Jerk The Fugitive - Special Edition The Mission – Special Edition The Great Muppet Caper The Best of the Muppet Show – Vol. 3 – Peter Sellers The Best of the Muppet Show – Vol. 4 – Harry Belafonte I'm getting Freaky Friday and How to Deal for my sister (both are guilty pleasures of my own too though... FF is just a great family flick and HTD...Mandy Moore is hot...that's all I'll say) MATT |

The Big List (in vaguely descending order of interest) Masters of the Universe Piranha Rocky IV When Worlds Collide Planet of the Apes (The TV Series) Mighty Peking Man Hell Comes to Frogtown Tromeo & Juliet Silent Running (special edition) All Monsters Attack! The Valley of Gwangi The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms The Adventures of Robin Hood Jaws 3 Quartermass and the Pit Triumph Of The Will Jack Frost (the psychotic killer snowman version not the Michael Keaton or the animated version) Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Dyna Chopping Mall Killbots The Blob (50's McQueen version) Das Boot Shark Attack 3: Megalodon Red Beard Invasion of the Body Snatchers The Car C.H.U.D. Death Race 2000 Heavy Metal Mr. Sardonicus King Kong (the new one) Robot Monster The Tingler Capricorn One Humanoids from the Deep Time Bandits - Criterion Collection A Shot in the Dark Mad Monster Party Lambada: The Forbidden Dance Runaway Train Missing In Action American Ninja 2: The Confrontation / American Ninja 3: Blood Hunt And really, this is more of my "I'll get around to buying these someday" list than a wish list. More of a B-List than active desire. If I get a good deal, I'll snap them up - but for the most part, I can live with or without them. Perfect for when my friends ask what I want for my birthday. |

You need to get Black Hawk Down 3-Disc Deluxe Edition. Just look at all the Extras!
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...s=dvd&n=507846 I bought it even though I have the original release and never regreted it. Some of the ways Ridley Scott directs is funny. Like not telling actors that certain things are going to blow up so he gets a true reaction out of them. I can't say enough good things about this 3-disc set for a 144 minute movie!!! I mainly asking for series. Alias, X-Files, Sopranos, Sports Night, C.S.I, SFU, and Band of Brothers, but the movies I am asking for are Indiana Jones Trilogy and the Hannibal Lector trilogy. |
For your wife...(trust me)...
"The Vertical Ray of the Sun" go to: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/ and click on DVD reviews. scroll down to "v's" and check it out. For you daughter... go w/ previous recommendations of anything w/ "The Muppets." For you... well, your on your own! |
I'm dropping mad hints for ER Season 1 and Smallville Season 1 right now. I'm hoping I score at least one.
|
The only dvd on my wish list is Velvet Goldmine. I'd like to get Babylon 5 season 3 and Buffy season 5, but they're kind of expensive, so I'd rather get them myself.
