I don't understand why some studios insist on using the "push" tab DVD case, which keep the DVD tightly imprisoned. I hate these cases more than the snappers.
A couple of DVD which uses these "push" tabs are:
Band of Brothers
Sex and the City (every set)
Unforgiven (2 disc)
True Romance (2 disc)
The Band of Brothers disc took forever to pry out.
I had to literally break the tab off of the unforgiven case in order to get it out.

Those push tabs are essential for keeping DVDs from popping loose during shipping and handling. The more often you remove the DVD from the push tab, the easier it becomes to remove it.

Many dvd cases which carry similar packaging designs (i.e. LOTR: Towers/Fellowship Extended Edition) use a far better method to hold the dvds, which keeps them well confined but easy to remove.

From what I recall the MiB delux edition has been the worse so far. I literally had to break the package (one of the little prongs holding the disc in place) in order to get it out.

Was it still playable?

I have a Red Skelton disc with a couple slight cracks around the hole. Took it out of the case and put it back in the case several times, crack never got larger. Disc still plays fine.

I haven't but I've been very afraid of it before. Sometimes I start prying on it, then realize its just a plastic disc, and am all worried that I warped it lol. I take it out finally and like look at it at eye level and am like "shit I hope it still plays!"

Did you try returning it for another?
I wonder if a retailer would allow you to return/exchange a disc you broke because you merely attempted to remove it? Where does the liability lay in these rare situations.

I own over 1000 DVDs, and I have never, ever cracked, broke or even scratched one by trying to get it out of any type of holder...I've had DVDs loose in the box that were cracked or scracthed, but never one that I damaged myself.

Not personally, but my 2.5 year old daughter broke Shrek trying to remove it from the case. We don't usually allow her to do such things, but she got to it before we noticed.

I haven't broken one, but came pretty close, Band of Brothers was pretty bad.
With T2 UE, the 2nd disk cracked, I think those kind of cases aren't good either.

I had a *b*tch* of a time getting Akira out of the tin the other day [had never been removed.] Felt like I was going to break it,and it took a good 8 minutes [I was trying to go easy so it wouldnt break.] I hate those hard clear plastic tab things, they don't work as they should.

I chipped the area around the hole on my "The Day the Earth Stood Still" DVD when I was pulling it out. At times I can occasionally be impatient though and I think this was one of those times...
Buimmer too, this is one of my favorite movies... I'll more than likely just replace it in time.
