12 Monkeys Collectors Edt. Are there any extra supplements?
I just bought 12 monkeys collectors edition (not DTS) from Best Buy. Every review I read about this disc says there's a commentary, a 90 minute featurette, trailers, and cast bios, but the back of the DVD cover lists no extras whatsoever.
I haven't opened it yet, so can anyone who has the 12 monkeys disc confirm if it has these extras, even though the back cover lists none? |
Yup it has the features. At least mine does.
|
Yep, it has all those features. For some reason they left that valuable information off the back of the cover.
|
its a great disc!
|
Thanks for the fast confirmations. I've been looking forward to seeing this again. The only copy I have is a VHS version I recorded off of pay-per-view 5 years ago.
|
And do watch that documentary on the making of. It is one of the best making of docs out there.
|
They did the same with Apollo 13. No features on the back.
On 12 Monkeys though, this disc has my favorite extra feature on any disc. It's been a while since I watched it but there was a whole 15(maybe) minute documentary about marketing the film and designing the posters and print ads. Interesting stuff. |
Very nice supplements. Gilliam commentary tracks are always interesting and "The Hamster Factor and Other Tales of Twelve Monkeys" is one of the best behind the scenes docs that I've watched. The back of my DVD packaging mentions the doc (right at the bottom in small print) but not the commentary track. Very odd, considering things like French subtitles are often touted as "special features".

The 12 Monkeys Collector's Edition contains the following:
Audio Commentary with Director Terry Gilliam and Producer Charles Roven The Making Of 12 Monkeys Featurette (The Hamster Factory) Production Notes Cast and Filmmakers Bios Theatrical Trailer |
Early Universal DVD's didn't mention what supplements were on the disc. Vertigo was the same.
|
I wish this disc had the original short film 12 Monkeys was based on. It was all still photography, if I remember correctly.
|
whait is left down for the DTS edition??
is it worth the extras to sacrifice the DTS track? or the DTS has the sam extras? |
The DTS version doesn't have any extras. And the extras greatly outweigh any sort of audio improvement you would experience with the DTS track. I say get the Collector's Edition.

As quoted from dvdauthority.com: There are no extras on this disc. While the sound on this disc is a better mix overall, I would have to say that for the same money you should go a head and buy the Dolby Digital version. Now, if the discs were equal in accordance with features, I'd say go DTS...but the Dolby Digital version is a Collector's Edition disc with trailers, documentarys, cast and crew bios and above all--a Terry Gilliam commentary. I'm thinking it's because of discs like these, that Universal started putting both soundtracks (Bowfinger, The Bone Collector) and all the supplements on one disc. |
same here. Gilliam is extremely fascinating. If you too find this out, then I recommend Lost in La Mancha as well... :)
|
I picked this up at Best Buy too. Look for the 2 packs, it comes with The Thing. :)

It's on some sort of "Short Cinema" IIRC DVD, with a bunch of short films. I used to see it all the time in Tower Records, but I never picked it up, and now I never see it anywhere. |
I got my copy in that two pack with The Thing. It was a great buy. Both are Collector's Editions with great extras.
