Long wanted films finally out on DVD!

Well after four years of waiting, two of my favorites are finally on DVD, Naked Lunch and the soon to be released Baby Snakes by Frank Zappa! I am extremely excited about this, but there are a couple more that I've also been waiting for.

Delicatessen

and

Slackers

Anyone heard anything about these? I was surprised Delicatessen didn't get a R1 release after Amelie sold so well.

Oh the Battlestar Galactica series was a long time coming as well. I don't think I'm going to be able to resist the urge to order that at DDD before the sale expires, bad packaging notwithstanding.

I was just looking for Delicatessen yesterday and was sad to see that it was MIA from the DVD world. But I was happy to find The City Of Lost Children . . . it looks like a good release and, thanks to DDD coupon order #3 (the fourth and final one will be tomorrow :D ), it will be mine shortly.

Woo-hoo!

If I remember correctly, Synapse has Delicatessen on a coming-soon list. I'll have to verify.

I seem to remember Amelie getting a price drop by Christmas time last year, and I believe it came out in July or August. I love the film, but I wonder if sales were less than hoped for on that title.

If you're talking about the 1991 Richard Linklater film, it's called "Slacker." And I'd buy it in a second if it were to come out on DVD.

...the movie is available on a R2 (UK)/PAL disc...

I was not aware of that. Unfortunately, according to the review you linked to, "For such a stylishly presented disc – the menus are pretty cool – it’s a disappointment that picture and sound are so poor, especially where dialogue is so indistinct yet central to the narrative (or lack thereof)." Still, though, might be worth picking up until a better one comes along...

The UK disc of Delicatessen is very good.

Read reviews from decent reviewers before making your mind up.

Yes, you are correct.

Goes to show that it's been WAY too long since I saw it.

Too bad this great movie languishes unreleased when his crappy follow up Dazed & Confused has been out for a while now....

Daniel Windsor 12-06-03 11:38 PM

Slacker is also out in the UK.

A little rare now but it's at Amazon UK marketplace here

porieux 12-08-03 02:16 PM

I'm still hoping for a R1 release.

stegon66 12-08-03 02:27 PM

I'll second Delicatessen and Slacker.

Also:

Proof (1992)
The Reflecting Skin
Santa Sangre
Before the Rain
Voyager
The Rapture

Daniel Windsor 12-08-03 02:31 PM

I'd love to see Proof on DVD.

Santa Sangre is due out soon in the UK.

talemyn 12-08-03 02:36 PM

I'll add a DVD that I think is sorely missing from the R1 world . . . The Name Of The Rose. I know I keep bringing it up, but it has such potential, I really think it's a crime that it's not out yet (except in Italy and Brazil . . . stupid Italian SE . . . ).

How about MY LEFT FOOT with Daniel Day Lewis, I was looking for this DVD a while ago, and not luck, anyone know is there's a DVD in the marketplace?

My Left Foot

Another fine film that needs a R1 DVD release is A Pure Formality

You're thinking of The Deli, which is a very different film.

Both of these are high on my list - especially the little-known Proof.

If we're going for the obscure, my top title would be Mickey One the Arthur Penn movie with Warren Beatty, made just before Bonnie and Clyde - but that never even made it to VHS.

I would kill for a good Slacker disc...ok, maybe not kill but you get the idea.
"Sure I live bad. But at least I don't have to *work* at it."
